Mapping skybox issues (Problably noob)

So Ive made a cool skybox, Im pretty proud of it. But when it loads up in spring, it either gives me an error saying it can't find the texture, or it displays it in 8 bit color (Eww!).
I would post some screenies but I'm at school right now.
ALSO: ATICubeMapGen constantly runs at a single digit FPS and it to large for a 1024x768 screen (cuts off options), making it a pain in the ass to use. Is there a fix for this or an alternate skybox compiler I can use?
CPU: Intel Celeron 2.97ghz
Video Card: ATI Radeon 9600 128mb
Mobo: Some MSI thing (AwardBios)
RAM: 1GB 400mhz DDR

U are totally right about the bad FPS in cubemap gen, unfortunately i have no clue as to alternatives. I basically struggled through it, but it was worth it in the end.

It runs fine for me also... sliky smoth...
However, am I reading right that your trying to use 1024x768 screens as your sides? only you should be using 1024x1024, or another exact multiple. The 1024 ones look good in my opinion, 2048 is to much and 512 dont hack it.
Also, what DSS were you exporting as?

I always thought Cubemapgen supported a maximum resolution of 1024 x 1024 only.

Wat? Nonono, 1024x768 is my SCREEN resolution, not my CubeMap resolution, my sides are all 1024x1024 bitmaps.

Not quite sure what a DSS is...I exported it as Valkrishau.dds, does that help?

DSS should be .dds "direct draw surface"
