Can someone give me a general layout for the folders in an SM3 map? I know how to make all the maps/files that are needed but I don't know where to put them. Something along the lines of this would be very helpfull :)

Code: Select all

-Maps
     -mapname
-any folders or files that go here?
     -anything else/files that go here/etc.?
Anyways, thanks for the help :)
and do I 7zip it with .sm3 as it's extention?

The SM3 should have the same location as in case of SMD files (ie: maps\blah.sm3). The files referenced in it (such as textures or the heightmap) can be anywhere in the spring filesystem..

Okay, thanks :).

What about compressing the map file though? do you compress the "maps" folder as MapName.sm3?

The sm3 file is a text file similar to the original smd file. You compress the map and end up with a .sdz (zip) file or a .sd7 (7zip) file, similar to the process with the smf map format.

oh okay, so files go anywhere as long as the sm3 points to them properly, sm3 in the maps folder, compress as .sdz or sd7? This sounds so much better than having to recompile every two minutes

For testing, use the .sdd format(name a directory *.sdd, and it will act like an archive).

Like:

spring\maps\sm3testmap.sdd\maps\sm3testmap.sm3

Oh cool, I thought that only worked for mods. And thanks for all the help :). Now I just need to figure out how geovents are supposed to be added :P

(edit): I keep getting the error "Bad/no Terrain type map". How do you make a typemap exactly? :? and the metal maps don't seem to work the same in the sm3 format. Nor do Minimaps :S

Okay, Just a few more questions
1) How do you get the metal map to work? (right now it's just showing up blank)
2) Same as above, just for the minimap.
3) How do you work the type map.
and
4) How do you make geovents?

Everytime I try to download Wakamatunga riri it gives me an sdz folder with a smd file in it :?

Can someone just give me a link to a working sm3 map?

the .sdz file is threated by Spring as a map, isn't it?

So.. just put it in Spring/maps/ and you should be ok.. I guess

http://user.supradigital.org/jcnossen/spring-sm3-v4.zip contains "Two seas", however make sure you dont overwrite the spring exe and shaders (You should only extract the maps/Two_seas.sdd map from the zip file)

rename the somethingfunny.sdd folder to somethingfunny and whakawhatsit should work.. unless the release is different from mine.
