Is for the fucking win!
It is a WWII game made by Relic (They made Warhammer 40k Dawn of War), you are following Able company. You assault on Omaha Beach and continue missions until the end of WWII. (I only have the demo, and thats all I know story-wise.)
This game is awesome! Artillery leaves red ash all over the place, tanks bounce the shells off the front (Axis mostly!) Tanks have fronts, sides, and backs. The backs are the most weak, sides are about 50% and front has a lot of armor.
Graphics 9/10
Extremely good for an RTS game. It looks like HL2 or DOD:S in RTS format. Buildings look great, and also look pretty cool when a tank rolls through one. Soldiers open their mouths to talk. As usual, bullets are little yellow lines... Artillery slamming into tanks looks awesome. I love those german 88's... Hahahahah...
Gameplay 10/10
Units can gain promotions. They become much better. And it really affects Axis in a way, hehe.
Resources: Nothing much, made by Relic, so it only has
Manpower: Start with a lot of it normally rolling in. Used to buy everything from soldiers to armor. Gain more by getting control points.
Munitions: Used to purchase weapons for units and soldiers. Also used during "Spells" if you will. Like telling a Heavy MG to switch to AP rounds for a few seconds. Gain More by controlling munitions points.
Fuel: Used for upgrades and requisitioning armor. Armor is very useful, but costful to buy. Gain by controlling Fuel points.
Units: Allies
Pros: Some upgrades decrease cost and production time of troops, pretty useful.
Cons: Weaker overall troops, but they start stronger than Axis.
Engineers: 3 Man Squad. Build every building, construct defenses, and good at putting observation points on controlled points.
Riflemen: 6 Man Squad. Standard troops. When Upgraded can use a BAR1918 to give suppression fire (Requires Ammo), and throw sticky bombs or grenades. You have to purchase the upgrades, then the sticky bombs cost 80 munitions and the grenades cost 25 each. Certain upgrades allow them to construct defensive buildings.
Paratroopers: 6 Man Squad. Elite-ish infantry, very powerful. Can use up to two recoilless rifles per squad. Recoilless rifles cost 125 munitions. They are strong anti tank weaponry.
Heavy Machine Gunners: Three man squad. Must deploy before firing. Mows down the enemy like a lawnmower cuts grass. They are moderately useful against very light armor, and can use the Armor Penetrating rounds for a few seconds (Cost munitions, 50 I think.)
Sniper: Very useful against infantry, extremely useful against MG's if snuck up on. Snipers are 1 shot one kill in most cases. Elite snipers fire very fast, almost 1.5 second. I think this is overkill, but some semi automatics can keep good accuracy...
Mortars: I don't use 'em much, but it would seem kind of obvious what they do. I don't know about special abilities.
Rangers: Called in by an Ability. Six to a squad. Already armed with two bazookas. Can be upgraded to give the other 4 thompsons.
Axis: Have pretty much the same troops, except has VolksGrenadies (Riflemen equivalent) and Grenadiers (Paratrooper equivalent.)
But, grenadiers can get light MG's, better against infantry than normal sub machine guns.
The Axis has a VERY useful (to me) upgrade. The troops (all of 'em) can be upgraded to a veteran status before they even hit the field. Three upgrades, one for each class. 4 classes. Infantry, Support, Vehicles, and Armor.
This is why Allies start a little better. One volksgrenadier squad can match two or so riflemen squads when they are fully promoted.
I give this game a 10/10. I think artillery is very fun (shoots halfway across the map) and I won't be going in to the armor....
My eyes hurt.
