Well, this is not something new. I can remember we (me and my neighbours) used to experiment with this almost 10 years ago. Bringing it to the public knowledge like this is probably not a good idea since it really is as easy as they make it sound like.

Cool because I'm a nerd and cool science/hacky things make me happy.

Scary because not a single keyed lock an any house I've ever lived in would be safe.

Heh, Our house has 4 doors. one which is standard key like that, which is behind one with an original key (you know, The shape you normally accociate keys with) And 2 which only open from inside the house (due to the locks break at various points and being fixed with 2 pull-ope-locks and a piece of wood).

What possessed this dopey twat to bring this to the masses anyway?
besides this is why you put bolts on the insides of your door ^^

Uhm, this has been all over national television in Germany, it's common knowledge to lot's of my friends, and I guarentee that most criminals know about it...

Would you rather know or not know that anyone could walk into your house within 3 seconds.

uhhhh theres a difference between making people aware of the problem and teaching people how to do it isnt there?
this is an instruction video on how to make a bump key, and break into someones house not some news report warning of the of problem.

Doesnt really bother me though tbh, I have a bolt on each of my house doors and if they decide to kick it down they'll find a huge set of jaws attached to 130lbs of German Sheperd waiting to greet them.
If I didnt have bolts or a dog though Id be worried, its seems very easy to make one of those things, especially now theres instruction videos telling you how to do it allover the net, sweet.

Hurra for dead bolts. I have a huge plank that prevents the door from sliding open when lowered. Our lock is broken, so I suppose the bump key would be completely usless...

My front door has a similar kind of lock to those, but if you put a key in on the inside the outside wont turn even with the correct key.

In the UK there is a criminal charge called "Going equiped for burglary, theft or cheat." Being found with a bump key would take some explaining.

I'm not too worried myself, my front door is never used, and the back door has one of thopse old long keys... but then, that dosent matter anyway since it rarely gets locked... +1 to living in the middle of a load of fields!

Ya, but if you put it on a normal keychain with other keys it just looks like a key, nothing really innately suspicious about it. It's a bit different then walking around with a crowbar and a sack.

I thought there are laws about uploading videos on a public site about criminal techniques I better sleep with a door holding the door closed Old fashioned yes but i'm surprised it still works.

I doubt this works with modern locks like Abloy Exec.

The real point is to make people realize that the old style pin locks are at the end of their lifetime and you're not secure any more without a more modern solution.
