I fully agree that the LOS view needs to update MUCH faster....

and be really switchable
when using f keys too
seems improved since next release where factory disactivated it...

well... what it shows is your actual line of site... it just updates that slow from what I understand... so it's not the view, it's the engine.

I wish my shadows wouldn't disapear too so I still have visually stunning graphics

hint/hint
Yeah, faster LOS update would be great, could LOS be permanently be visible on the minimap? that would be great.
[edit] spelling, whoops!

No, los definitley updates way faster, just the overlay is slow...

The overlay has to be calculated per map square instead of per enemy unit, there's usually many more map squares than enemy units in a game. That's why the overlay doesn't update constantly.

maybe but it s not corect for an enduser realese
is a fix is possibl???

by KDR_11k
Of course that's possible but it'll run sloooooooow.

There are no endusers in OpenSource... only betatesters and devs.

but is not a end user goal for dev work?
and why other game corect refresh and not be slow?
Posted: 24 Jul 2006, 15:08
by KDR_11k
Because other games use hacks like adding/subtracting from the LOS instead of calculating it anew?
Posted: 24 Jul 2006, 15:13

please develop
about the hack/cheat los by add/sub
=>i don t understand now

Los is calculated every frame though (or almost), it's the texture updating that is done slow for performance reasons. So this doesn't have any bad effects on the gameplay itself.

I think most modern RTSes don't show your LOS ranges at all nowadays. You have to guess what you can see and what not...

you supose only it seems...
but some engine coder knowing the others code will can answer maybe...
all rts except bads hav good los...
but i remind not hav to see a rts
where radar and los are stoped by elevation maps....
maybe a heavy load
