I don't know for spring, but in TA you can't really have a unit blocking shots with that kind of shield.

But in TA you can have starwar style shields:

it would be nice if unit makers could do "part" in model that takes no damage when hit

Why not have a unit thats invincible (shape of a shield) thats being transported by a unit (on the arm) that way you just ahve to position the arm in scripting some way and set ti so the shield unit cant be unloaded so ti dies when its host dies

Umm firestar... no.

As for the original shield idea: yes, its very possible, but its also VERY VERY VERY processor intensive in TA. More than three or four such units will lag the game horribly. I suppose you could implement it in Spring, but it would all depend on how optimized the scripting core was...

Oh well just a thought

If the HitByWeapon script would postpone the damage calculation until it is finished, it could be used to switch the ARMORED tag of the unit before damage applies, effectively making a shield. After a certain number of hits, it would dissipate, and the ARMORED tag wouldn't switch anymore.

Shield On: damage 40% of normal damage. And maybe the unit can be a bit blueish or something so you know it's shielded.

Even though TA is cool, if I were ARM or CORE and I had been fighting for about 4000 years, then I'd surely have come up with shields and other stuff. There are already lasers.

ooh so some of you are thinking it's the electromagnetic energy shield type of shield and soem the shield on arm physical shield sort fo shield, the original question seeming to be the latter judging from the pics

Redfish - that already highly doable in TA. The only thing needed for that in Spring is alpha maps or a special glow FX. The damagemodifier tag, and the ARMORED sysvar, together produce a shield effect.

I'd say that the damagemodifier tag should be removed entirely, and the shield strength be defined by the ARMORED sysvar.

And what about directionnal shield?
So some unit can be invulnerable from front.

That will as well require the modification of the HitByWeapon script that I spoke of.

Would be useful for mods like WW2 mods or realism mods.........

I'm sure some of you know the Alien Fusion Reaktor which has a shield. Anyway this shield doesn't look very nice. Would it be possible to implement a transparent blue(?) shield?

I had following ideas how such a shield could be implemented:

1) for 1 building -> means the shield has the shape of the building just a little bit larger. (may cause overlapping effect on some models)

2) for 1 building -> shield has oval form depending on ground size and height of building (causes no graphic problems in respect of model shape)

3) a base shield covers a certain area and causes all buildings in this area to take less damage from ranged attack (i guess this is not possible)

Something great to implement would be if the shield has OWN hitpoints, that means the unit which is producing the shield does NOT loose hitpoints. So it would be possible to create some sort of "recharging shields" as long enough energy is available.

Hum, when a unit is shot by a heavy weapon, it is blown on the air in the opposite direction of the shoot.

So, I assume the engine know from wich direction a unit was hit. Perhaps you can do a shield wich are polar.

Exemple : if a unit is shot from 0 to 90 degree in axis x and 90 to 180 from axis y, the shoot is absorbed by the shield.

Sorry, I don't speak very well english
