I still need help on installing maps.

Well I followed the FAQ and installed Zip Genius. I unzipped maps from .rar format and they come out in .SMD and in .SM2 format. When I told Zip Genius to try to unzip them it said that the index is out of boundaries. So how do I convert those formats to the .SD7 format?

Thank you for your help.

Make a folder called "maps". Put all the "*.sm*" files in it. Then make a 7zip archive with this folder in it. Finally, rename the .7z to .sd7.

I think that should work (at least it does work on linux..)

I think you might be trying to hard... are you just trying to play with maps you've downloaded from fileuniverse? if they have sdz or sd7 extension you just drop them in the spring/maps directory and the game will see them.

waitaminit waitaminit waitaminit waitaminit... sm2?

valid archives that work with the current engine contain a maps directory with an SMD, an SMF, and an SMT file... you might be looking at maps from the old map format or possibly old TA maps... not sure... spring isn't able to use TA map files...

well those maps are from Fileuniverse.

FileUniverse hosts maps for outdated versions of spring and also maps for the orriginal total annihilation... you want maps from this section...

PS: SM2 files are the old map format, there is no utility for converting them to the new map format, they are a proprietary bitstream(thinkg tarball)that defines everything about the map and then included the dds files for the map... they are not in any standard format and there is no utility for unpacking them outside of pre .50 versions of spring... aka, after packaging they could only be read by the game...

That section you showed me is where I downloaded those maps. Well I guess I will experiment with Core Prime Industrial Area for now.

yeah... the FU guys would probably appreciate if you posted which maps in the main section are incompatible... could you post some links?

Sorry, I can't find those links. I think at that time the TA maps were merged or maybe I clicked the wrong link.

You most definitely clicked the wrong link. We were careful to split the old and new maps when the new map format launched, and since then no maps have been produced in the old format. You must have just ignored the large, colored warning at the top of the page...
