Need help with my first unit

I decided to try to make a unit for spring. I have successfully created the model with Maya and exported it to Upspring.

Because I can't script it yet I used the arm destroyer script and a modified arm destroyer fbi.

First I tried to save it in the .s3o format but when I tried it in game the only thing I got was a green selection square with a health bar. When I tried with the wrong file name I got an error massage so it can├óÔé¼Ôäót be that.

Then I tried to save it as a .3do. This is the result I got in Spring:

Obviously the texture is totally screwed. But in fact I didn├óÔé¼Ôäót use any texture!!! After this I tried to give each face a color in Upspring, with exactly the same result.

Does anyone know what I├óÔé¼Ôäóm doing wrong?

Thanks.

That's what spring puts on an untextured face, and I don't think UpSpring's coloring works. You need to UVmap the model.

Yeah, zoom in on that. You'll find it's actually ALL of the textures in the game on every single face. That's what happens to untextured faces in the 3do format.

And like Nemo said, you need to UV map it in maya and at least give it a quick solid color texture sheet for it to show up in Spring.

If you don't know how to UV map in maya, I recommend going to 3dbuzz.com and checking out their video tutorials, specifically for UT2004 character modelling. They're made with a different game in mind, but the UV mapping process is exactly the same. You just export to spring instead of UT ;)

I posted up a step-by-step skinning tutorial I made, in this forum... check it out, a few things won't apply (Freelancer stuff) but mostly it will.

Thanks, then I will just have to learn how to UV map. :-)
