Spring crashing during load, at "Initialyzing map features".

Hi,
Some maps are crashing all the times during load, at "Initialyzing map features". And I got an error message like "C++ runtime error".
It began a couple of months (8?) ago, after a new version release. I don't remember the version.
I tried to reinstall it many times, and deleted/downloaded the maps again but it didn't help.
Some maps are working without a problem, but I can't play some at all.
Crashing maps for example:
LLTA complex V2
FolsomDamDeluxeV4
and a lot of maps...

The last one was FolsomDamDeluxeV4, Ba v7.8.

You did not mention if you also tried that. If not, it might be worth a shot.

Hi,
I tried it a long ago, didn't help.
Maybe I will try to reinstall everything again, but I don't think there is a new driver release for my old graphic card.

I just uninstalled/installed the latest version of the graphics driver, and reinstalled spring (kept the settings and maps), and tried FolsomDamDeluxeV4 in single player mode. Everything the same, Microsoft C++ runtime error at "Initialyzing map features".
I also tried it in "Test Spring (safemode)", and it worked! It loaded in without a problem!

your gpu is really old, ati dropped support for it a few years ago already.
If you want to get that gpu still running try _different_ driver versions, cause the last available is obviously bugged.

Zotya, I guess you can try a few things:
1) try to play vs ai using latest spring test build:

If it works fine - then you will play without problems when new release will come out (looks like soon).
2) just run spring.exe (not from lobby) and go to "Edit Settings" menu. It have more setting then "springlobby settings editor" and you can find what you need to turn off to play without crash.
If you can play in "safe mode" - that means one of those options crashes your spring when turned on. So you need to find(guess) "which one".

HI,
I just tried the test version in singleplayer, it crashes at the same point, but now with something "It cannot read, from xxxxx memory space".

safemode just sets some settings to safer (oho) values.
Either always play with safemode or figure out which setting causes the crash for you.

Or for copy&pasting into springsettings.cfg:

(supposedly not complete list but idk which ones are missing)
With that copied into configfile it should be same as safemode and not crash. Then turn the settings one on by one until you find the one that makes it crash.

I forgot to mention, that I had to set AdvMapShading=0 before, because it was all green. I will try everything later, thanks for the help!

Can you please give me the location of springsettings.cfg?
I tried
C:\Documents and Settings\zotya.ZOL\Dokumentumok\My Games\Spring
But the content of the config file was only this:
InputTextGeo = 0.26 0.73 0.02 0.028
I tried to replace the whole file, but it didn't make any change, so my cfg file has to be somewhere else.
I was trying to set the values one by one, it wasn't succeed yet.
I wasn't paying attention, and set font size to zero :-D, so I need to find the bloody file, because I can't see anything.

Ok I found it! Infolog told me:

It was: UseVBO=0
There is one thing I don't understand.
If the cfg file doesn't content every settings, what are the default values?
What UseVBO=0 does btw?

What UseVBO=0 does btw?

Whatever that means!
The same setting I have to set to =0 too btw

Maybe it fails because our videocards do not have "video device memory"? (shared memory with RAM)

Game is now in window, and mouse scroll doesn't work...

BTW I always play in windowed mode. Just zoom out and zoom in with mouse instead of scrolling using window ages. And I like that a lot.

It's not that old, it was released in 2006. That's only 7 years.

No, which is why evo has a widget that sends /grabinput 1 if grabinput=1 is detected in your springsettings.
