I know is such a big work, but since spring rts allows FPS, it would be amazing if the FPS style its optimized, so then theres a posible addiction to make a fps mod style of black ops with rts style too, something like the player start with 2 3 solider, can select one of them and only shot by fpsing.
Spring also allows make maps with buildings, :) a war in midle of a city:)

An infantry-based fps won't work in spring, because you can't walk inside buildings. And if you can (after all, there are some colvol tricks and yardmaps to allow something pillars and corridors), you will never be able to make them multi-story, because units cant walk on top of each other, and terrain is only one level.
Go to unity, ogre, irrlicht, or whatever else.
----
On a side note, *some* improvements to FPS mode would be nice. I for one would welcome those. For instance:
* who controls the controls? -- some way to remap the way (not the buttons, but the entire control scheme) an fps-control interacts with the actual unit.
* make it less ugly! -- like, disable the default gun pointers, etc, or make it a lua callin so we could draw them with engine-provided data, but with gfx of our choice
Now, both of these can be rather definitely hacked away with some lua in form of gadget+movectrl+lus, but invoking movectrl pretty much means either overriding the unit's physics altogether, or just having different physics for ai and player-fps controlled units. :\

I don't think so with 500-1000ms of latency that is common for spring's networking.

every tool to its purpose: spring engine is a tool to make RTS games.. it makes a shitty FPS engine.
