I maek new vidyo card

Picked up a new HD 5770 (Sapphire) today on the way home from work, popped the sucker in. Everything seems great so far. Replaced my nVidia 8500. Was going to get a nVidia 450 but they didnt have any in stock those fckrs.

So what can I expect? Can I run ~the last games~ now?

For the most part, though don't expect much anti-aliasing or to max crysis/metro 2033 at a half decent resolution. You need at least a GTX 460 (<3 mine BIG TIME) for that :P .

IIRC the 5*** series (especially juniper) was pretty bad at running AA and tessellation....

Actually I would return it if you really care enough...The 6790 is set to come out soon (barts > juniper, but cayman is really the only decent AMD architecture) so I would wait for that, or get a 6850 or GTX 460.

Pricetag is also a major factor, this was about the most expensive (that they had available) I was willing to get.

Will Ati/AMD put something new on the market soon?
Would suck if I buy now and in 3 weeks the price gets lower.

Im thinking about buying this:
SAPPHIRE HD6850

Currently I have an 3850 and I can still play 99% of all games with this with some tweaking. (Crysis 2 40fps)

I got a 4850 and i still run games on 2x-4x AA with decend gfx options and 1080p(22inch screen)...
Ran Crysis on pretty good gfx so i assume a 5 series would run anything no sweat...
I dont know who needs 8x or even 16 x AA...can you even notice anything past 4x?

How many FPS in crysis2?
Crysis seems to be a game that just runs a bit too slow on all the PCs I had.
40-50 fps isnt bad but its not good either.
(An FPS game needs ~80fps and no mouse lag/blurring shit at all when will devs learn?)

That is without AA or blurring etc, it looks even a little better overall (pixel stairs of course)

Don't you get the huge point lua drawing bug with your AMD card ? It happens when you use a lua minimap (redui, iceui, etc...) or anything that draws point with lua.Image

totally not true!
NVidia is cheaper, faster and has better drivers! Check recent benchmarks!

spring should stop neglecting ati they hold 35% market share
any changes to the game should be checked with both ati and nvidia cards before implementation instead of all this favoritism

PLEASE INFORM YOURSELF BEFORE SAYING SUCH CRAP
IT IS ATi WHO NEGLECT THEIR DRIVERS (ESP. OPENGL)!
IT IS ATI WHO _ADDS_ NEW BUGS WITH EACH DRIVER VERSION, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO WORKAROUND THEIRS BUGS - THINGS THAT WORKED BEFORE DON'T WORK THE NEXT DAY ETC.!

i refuse to choose my graphics card based on one game when all other games work perfectly, i have had 0 issues with ati drivers in directx games, if you say ati/opengl is not a good mix why use opengl?

ati has been degrading their drivers over the years, not something one can predict.

I dunno m8 i'm lovin the new card, every game i've tried i've run 100% max settings with no problems (BFBC2, Shogun 2, uhhh.. other stuff)

it may not be the absolute best and it may not last as long as a higher end card but for my income level its awesome. no troubles so far. also the only reason i really got it was because the store i got it at was out of equivalent level nVidia cards.

what percentage of spring players actually use linux? would the game not run better on directx?

Offhand I would say at least 30% of the players use linux.

Don't underestimate a market where there is little to no decent competition.
