nope just high amounts of linux and trace amounts of GPL which has been shown to cause swelling of the head and unjustified feelings that one is of higher intellect. There have been lengthy studies done to figure out the delusional state most Unbuntu users find themselves in. However, none of the tests have been able to discern the cause of this head swollen arrogance. In fact, the delusion sometimes goes so far as to make the Unbuntu users feel compelled to spread their infection vigorously which has most departments of health concerned world wide.

Ungh, that is pathetic. My 90+ yr old grandmother uses a netbook with ubuntu netbook edition and does just fine.

My mother uses Ubuntu desktop on her netbook at loves it. Maybe we should institute computer ownership licenses, cause some people are just too damn stupid. Unlike windows, anytime you mouseover something in ubuntu, it tells you wtf it is, you don't have to be even remotely smart to run ubuntu, just capable of an inkling of common sense.

While I grant that Ubuntu is easy to use and learn... if you got it on a computer with only experience with Windows you would say WTF in the same way that a person using OSX for the first time would etc.

Also, the NDIS-wrapper for the crappy USB-based WirelessN network adaptor (which I could find no native linux drivers for) doesn't work properly on my wife's computer so we had to switch her back to WinXP...

its actually really weird because every 3 or 4 reboots it works fine, and even when it doesn't work it still is able to see available wireless networks.

Well she doesn't have a clue about computers, if she's just told that to write down words you need Word, to explore internet you need Internet Explorer, & never got around to understanding it any deeper than that. It's not about being stupid to not get stuff working, anyone would have trouble in a field they have no knowledge of. She's an idot for not asking for help though.

I love Ubuntu... but still, that idiot at Dell shouldn't have been preaching. She bought the wrong OS, you say "yes ma'am, we'll take it back and send you a new one".

Also, if a little thing like having the wrong OS is stopping you from taking the initiative to register for your classes, you're at the wrong school... the school you should be at is accessed via the short bus. Go to the library. Bug a friend. Go to the on-campus computer labs. WTF?

Also, I'm pretty sure Ubuntu comes bundled with OOO Writer, which, while imperfect, will cover all the usage of Word you'll hit in a first-year college course.

Oh, and Sinbad is quite right - ndiswrapper sucks and in general wifi is the biggest hardware WTF of linux.

Somebody should have told her she is too dumb to study and that she should save the fees.
And this was a technical college

In ubuntu you can use the internet and once the connection is established download open office (~200mb).

www.wkow.com wrote:Schubert's computer came with Open Office, a word processing software package that is compatible with Microsoft Word. She says she wasn't aware it was compatible. MATC promised to show her how to save documents in compatible formats so she could enroll in online courses again.

The question remains how did these people survive ~20 years while being so dumb?

What is your problem asshole?
Not having a clue about computers in 2010 you lose and only women can have that kind of attitude.
"Oh I dont need to know about computers I will become an elementary school teacher" "Im not good in math, hihi"

Blaming dell for not being able to do college stuff thats retarded, its like saying the bus didnt drive to college so I couldnt go there for 2 semesters.
So now I sue somebody.

I was a linux fanboy once, than i helped out in a bakery, the baking ovens had a linux based controll system, it was slow, missed the touchscreen inputs, didnt show the correct numbers of heat and steam, and best of it all crashed regularly. Showed me the Penguin every restart, learned to curse there, bakerman was raging allover that thing, 50.000 Euro for Crap.

Still, this lady deserves to be disserviced.

reminds me on a neighbor which bough some very expensive sound system for her new house. its something with speakers built into the rooftop in every room, central station, and controllable over the network and whatnot. they had some proprietary software bundled with it, that was of course way worse then every music player you have ever seen, with only part of the functionality of media player classic, though, it was skinned in a cool way, fitting with the design of the central station, woohoo!!
the whole thing cost them like 20'000 euros.

... it is not linuxs "fault" ;-)

You hang with the ones they catch you with. Windows got thousands of bluescree-appearances in hatemails for the same reason.
