My high school history teacher predicted that the next world war was going to start in Korea.

Frankly, nobody (including north korea) wants a war. NK knows that they could never win a war. However, they have to justify their military state in light of how successful South Korean democracy has been - and the only way to do that is to ensure that they can call themselves the more feared and respected Korea.

Frankly, I wouldn't worry a whole hell of a lot. I'd only be worried if NK did something like this twice in a row in a short period of time (period of days). For now...meh...maybe be on guard, but beyond that I see little point in worrying a lot.

Everybody knows that a war there would basically go like this:

1) The world invades North Korea. The invasion takes less than a week.
2) At the last second, some asshole nukes Seoul. Warheads aimed at Tokyo fall into the sea of Japan.
3) Otherwise-pacifistic countries support the death penalty for everybody involved in decision (2).
4) Post-war North Korea gets to spend the next decade looking like Iraq.

Basically, anybody with enough brains to make the decision rattles sabres to look good for the madman-in-chief and the peasants, but keeps the hell away from war.

Sorry for my ignorance, but why on earth would the russians get involved now? China, maybe, but that is quite a stretch too, imo.

If war broke out, China would make noises and sell weaponry to the NorKs, but wouldn't actually do anything. North Korea has their hodge-podge of nukes, their half-starved brainwashed army, old Chinese military hardware, and no real friends to fall back on.

Hey....the world is overpopulated already.
Its better to develop an AI and expand its capabilities than breed more humans.
humanity finds it hard to work as a single entity, furthermore, expanding its capabilities(i.e number of brains) through biological breeding takes a lot of time and is inefficient.
An AI,once it possesses the same mental abilities as a human, would expand its abilities and power much faster and in a much more effecient and economic manner.

This, is striking fear into millions across the world.

WHAT?

From the news i could gather that a South korean marine artillery company/batallion was doing live fire exercises in a military island with a small civilian village , Firing away from north korea but into contested waters.

North first sent a protest/warning of some kind to south, when they noticed the firing exercise and after a hour or two responded by firing a salvo (propably 14 guns with a 100-200 rounds fired) into the island

South's response was to send a fighter to target for counter battery fire (south fired roughly 80 rounds) and order some artillery on high alert targeting a northern missile base.

Casualties reported so far are 2 marines dead and 10 civilians/marines wounded, with tons of damage done to the buildings in the village


WHY

No good reason can be singled out yet but there are a lot of good ideas.

1) the usual show of force that happens every year or so that north uses to show its people how the demonic outside world wants to destroy their peaceful awesome country

2) Ttrying to hold claim over the contested water areas

3) Trying to increase their leverage in the humanitarian aid package for shutting down their nuclear(processing) plants


Mine is a very simple but propably a false one. Some higher up officer got wind of the southern exercise and saw a way to speed up his promotion.


WHAT THIS ISNT

This is not a full scale attack from north (how silly will this look tomorrow when north invades)

This is not a start for the third world war

So far there has been no escalation in the conflict, And despite what the newspapers are saying about HUNDREDS of rounds being fired into the island, you have to keep in mind that there are tens of thousands of loaded barrels pointing towards either side of the border.

If a full scale assault by the north ever happens, it will not start with a 20 artillery salvo on a nearly deserted army training island, But rather a few days long barrage of seoul with hundreds of thousands of ammo

They should just nuke all that area and be done with it.

Also does the democratic world need a reason to take out north Korea?those guys suck.
The west was a pussy long enough to allow a ruthless dictatorship without freedom of press to get nukes,time to man the fuck up and disarm them.
I say the Netherlands Belgium Switzerland and France should do it cause they are the biggest fags in europe.
