I am soo unhappy about that: it will be used for the new high speed train line which will share a tract with my regular railroad line.
given the fucked up state of italy's trains and the fact that high speed trains are given 100% priority, it will mean a chain of delays for all the regular travelers like me and increase of the ticket costs to cover part of the investment for the new service that very few will use

I don't understand what you are trying to say.

cant explain exactly why its like that, especially with the pattern of small triangles that appears almost like the scales of a lizard, possibly for reasons of structural integrity;

but i did see these machines on discovery and the grinder bits are placed so that there is a minimum of vibration in the rock, and an average amount of force is placed on all segments under pressure

i guess if they had fewer grinders, the rock would vibrate more, and there would be more danger of possible cave-ins.

also if you compare this machine to older, crappier ones such as the one used for the xinyi line in china, you notice that the cutter heads (edit: on the gotthard one) are slightly offset from the axis of rotation, designed to grip and pull at the rock rather than merely scraping at it

i mean, there is no sunlight, so they have to use other light sources. this together with the stones, which likely are wet, and the clothes of the workers, which are made to reflect, make an artificial image. if it would not look artificial, it would be shopped. if it does look artificial, it may be, or may not be.
