I kind of doubt it will be, after the travesty of AvP and (especially) AvP2. Hell, the only good Predator movie is... Predator. P2 sucked. No doubt I'll watch it at some point, however.

Minor spoilers in this post.

I never saw the Predator movies, and to this day I have somehow never even seen any AvP game in action.

I think the concept of predators (as a species) is cool, but the 80s-ish attempts at making them seem technologically advanced can be kind of embarrassing when you see them nowadays.

Saw the first AvP movie, thought it wasn't TOO bad. Not deserving of the widespread hate, anyway. Actually, more than the movie itself I appreciated the ways that they incorporated all the different aspects of the Predator, Alien, and AvP (game) franchises together.

For example, Weyland being the CEO (hint hint "Weyland Yutani") and later apparently used as an android design template, that was kind of clever. The way that they managed to somehow explain away the fact that what we were seeing was very similar to a deathmatch-style video game, with the levels changing every so many minutes, that took massive balls and ingenuity. It also sort of explained the origin of the xenomorph species, right? The predators created them as the ultimate prey IIRC. Yes, the whole thing was held together by duct tape and fairy dust, but the fact that it was done with any success AT ALL is staggering.

In conclusion, I have eleventy billion games I've bought but never installed, and about three times that many I've promised to make, so I probably won't be going to see Hollywood's latest bastardization of what many consider a classic. I didn't even see the new Iron Man.

While the director, Nimrod Antal, is something of a newb, his boss is Robert Rodriguez. Rodriguez is one of the modern day masters of '80s-style action movies. He did the El Mariachi movies, From Dusk Till Dawn, the Sin City movies (he's making Sin City 2), and Grindhouse: Planet Terror.

I hope he's keeping his hand in this - some producers are basically a name on the box, and some producers work closely along side the director. If Rodriguez is doing the latter, then this will be good.

At least the plot is not completely retarded right?
I mean the idea of AVP was completely ridicules.
At least this is consistent to some extant with predator and predator 2.
I just hope they do it as gory and raw as predator was.

the thing with rodriguez is that i feel he CAN pull off the retarded movies

i mean, once upon a time in mexico is probably one of the most ridiculous movies i've ever seen, but due to it being consistent throughout, was actually quite enjoyable.

my dad has a good term for it... "suspend disbelief". if you're able to do that, you can watch anything.

Also, fans must read this comic:

It predates all the video games. It came first. And it's awesome. The movie lifted a teensy handful of concepts but they completely threw out all the characters, the setting, etc.

It's very similar in style to James Cameron's Aliens movie.

interesting that you'd bring up that comic; dark horse website has a big advertisment for Predators up... so hopefully some of the awesomeness of the comics will be included in the movie

I was expecting it to be absolute, worst movie ever level shit, like the last several predator movies... but reviewers are saying it's pretty tolerable, if not decent. So meh.

It seems to be one of the movies where you've seen pretty much everything of importance in the trailer. I sort of had this bad feeling after watching that and thus waited for critics before going to the movies. I guess I won't go watch it...

It's told to try to clone the first Predator movie but fails at it. The Predators act like noobs, the props an costumes look cheap and the human cast is pretty bad. You might think that actors like Lawrence Fishburne might add something but I was told that he had just like 5 minutes on screen in the entire movie...

So if you expect just another action movie you'll probably have a mediocre experience. If you saw the two Predator movies and expect the new one to be anything like that you'll probably be disappointed...
