Segmentation Fault (SIGSEGV) on Ubuntu 10.04

Hi!

I have been playing a while on my mother's computer which has an Nvidia integraded GPU without problem. I run Ubuntu 10.04 x64. Lately I have been crashing many times whenever there is a big explosion. The screen just freezes and after a while it goes blurry. In the dekstop I get a window message: "Segmentation Fault (SIGSEGV)". I read some topics in the forum about the error message but no case seemed to be like mine as I load the game normally and I am able to play some minutes(until a big explosion takes place).

Sometimes I can even play whole games without crashing. What can it be? Btw I have recently updated to the last kernel. I use the Nvidia driver 173. From the end of my spring log:

Code: Select all

[ 12595] Segmentation fault (SIGSEGV) in spring 0.81.2.0

I wasn't able to locate the file now. I searched for "info" | containing "spring", looked in the usr/share/games/spring but don't seem to be anywhere. I will wait until I crash again and I willl post it. So long I reinstalled the Nvidia driver to see if that fixes the issue. So long I playied 1-2 matches without any problem :)

FAIL. It happened again though after the screen got blurry it didn't throw me to desktop but just continued running something like 1fps every 20secs with blurry screen. Can you tell me where the logfile should be located?

could be somewhere under user, or ~/.spring. name is "infolog.txt".

in the worst case:

Code: Select all

find / -name "infolog.txt"

i do not know what your problem is, but maybe someone else knows something about this card. i guess it is an on-board card (nForce)?

Yes it's on board. But the thing is that I was playing in the beginning without any problems. It's just the last week that it started crashing every now and then. The computer is 3 weeks old. Could it be a low power supply problem? As I have a 300watt PSU. Could that cause any problem like that?

[ 10857] This stack trace indicates a problem with your graphic card driver. Please try upgrading or downgrading it. Specifically recommended is the latest driver, and one that is as old as your graphic card.
[ 10857] Segmentation fault (SIGSEGV) in spring 0.81.2.0

The driver is the latest.. I will try to downgrade and see if that helps

Same crap still.. I tryied with the Nvidia 96 and still have the same problem. Whenever there is a big boom I get either crashed or the fps goes to 0-1 and my ping keeps getting high to the sky until I get kicked from the game :>

Have you tried this? For two of us, its not only helped performance but also helped stability.

As I said in that thread, I don't believe its applicable to your card but doesn't hurt to try.

I got this issue when i moved from .82.0 (which worked fine) to .83.3 (which now has this issue) I never touched my driver. The .82.0 release was from the ubuntu repos, and the .82.3 was compiled from source.

Hi there,

I am new to using spring but not computers and was experiencing a similar problem to you.

For me, the issue was resolved by turning cloud rendering off. I can only hazard a call is being made to the ATI drivers for an unimplemented hook.

After un-checking these two options, I have so far been able to play perfectly with all other settings cranked up. Considering I couldn't even start the beautiful game until addressing this issue, you might have luck down a similar avenue.

I hope this helps you and may TA live on until forever through the Spring project, great work on it

Other than "Sacrifice", TA is my fave game of all time so wandering across Spring is a bit of a heaven send , thank you! <3
