Anyone played Star Wolves series?
I just noticed this new series of games on Steam, Star Wolves. There are three in all, and the descriptions and reviews I've read strongly remind me of the Space Rangers series, which I give my wholehearted recommendation to.
Both series come from obscure Russian developers and have taken FOREVER to make their way to the various countries around the world.
I'm thinking about possibly buying the whole series. They seem to have attained a small cult status, high user review scores, with medium-high to low critic scores - same as Space Rangers.
Has anyone here played these games?

I read that sentence 5 times. I still have no clue what you are saying.knorke wrote:Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to tell what genre this game is be at least?

I got Star Wolves 2 (it was in a 4 game collection that was part of Amazon's 5 games for 10Ôé¼ deals so I paid about 50 cents for it) but found it pretty boring. Didn't play much of it though.

First I read that post, thought I understood it perfectly and moved on, then when I saw your post I read knorkes post and realised that yes, it doesnt make any sense.Beherith wrote:I read that sentence 5 times. Sad thing is I instantly forgot what I thought that post was about. Or maybe I just didnt think at all...
Re: Anyone played Star Wolves series?
I think he's trying to (in an oblique way) point out that (despite numerous reviews) no one has yet mentioned what genre the games are in. In so doing he is joking that no one has played it long enough to find out.JohannesH wrote:First I read that post, thought I understood it perfectly and moved on, then when I saw your post I read knorkes post and realised that yes, it doesnt make any sense.Beherith wrote:I read that sentence 5 times. Re: Anyone played Star Wolves series?
Sounds like elite + RPG + squadron command.... which really sounds like an endless time-sink to me and not a good game, but I'm burned out from playing Disgaea DS too much.
Re: Anyone played Star Wolves series?
i was just wondering whats the point of this thread. no description of the game, no screenshots. i have no idea what the space ranger series is.
yea i could google or youtube it but thats pointless because why should i look up this game and not a different one?
reading this posting has tought me nothing about the game.
might be a space racing game. or mmo grind rpg.
i dont know.

"might be a space racing game. "
No it couldn't be. Because nobody makes anything like that, ever. The "I Really Liked Elite" law states that all space-games created after 2000 must be focused on trading and upgrading equipment instead of action.
After all, everybody knows that the best part of the Star Wars movies was tracking the price of Beryllium so you could make the biggest margin.

There should totally be a space racing game... who was that guy who was making an oldskool space combat FPS shooter... I'm sure tacking on a checkpoint based race mode would be trivial.Pxtl wrote:"might be a space racing game. "

Re: Anyone played Star Wolves series?
I played both part 1 and 2. Star Wolves 1 is a fantastic game and I really can recommend it. It's a pretty unique mixture between RPG and space action. Star Wolves 2 had some interesting approaches to make certain things better but failed due to a too early release and a rather boring open world concept. I still wouldn't call it bad though...
I didn't know anything about Star Wolves 3 until like a week ago when I stumbled upon a Steam ad for it. I didn't buy it as I don't buy games totally depending on such online services like Steam until it's a game of a certain kind / series that I really want to play like lately AVP 3...
Concerning Star Wolves 3 what I read seems to go in the direction of Star Wolves 2 so it might not live up to the qualities of the first game. On the other hand some people even gave that excellent first one rather mediocre ratings - it probably isn't everyones taste. I guess you should fire up some gameplay videos on Youtube to see if you might like it. I for myself will definitely buy it if it will get released as a non-virtual Steam item...

BAM! There you have it, a recommendation from Caydr himself. Why, that's a reason to do almost anything!Caydr wrote:...strongly remind me of the Space Rangers series, which I give my wholehearted recommendation to.
The reason I'd assumed there's a >50% chance that you've heard of Space Rangers is because I talk about it frequently, and as I talk frequently in general, I'd assumed everyone here would have subconsciously become aware of it.

Re: Anyone played Star Wolves series?
Finished the 1st and 3rd games (juuust completed this on the Old Empire storyline path), 2nd was too buggy to be playable for me.
Overall a mildly entertaining series, though they really should improve the textures at least, since they've been using the exact same ones for all 3 games.

A moderator in my thread and I didn't get banned? I need to mark this on my calendar.

I was about to ban your for the sake of irony, but then I remembered I was informed after a prior incident that that type of behavior is unacceptable.Caydr wrote:A moderator in my thread and I didn't get banned? I need to mark this on my calendar.
