I have two Linux machines each with ubuntu 9.04 on them.
Computer 1 is a e5200 @ 4ghz 4gb of ram and an hd4850
Computer 2 is a e6550 at stock clocks, 2gb of ram and a 8800gts 320
Spring runs fine, except at every at roughly 10 minutes in, on both machines the window loses focus. does anyone know how to stop spring from losing focus?
I'm using the Gnome GUI, if that matters.

You can either set some focus stealing prevention (dunno how to do that in gnome, thought), or find out which app is stealing it and quit it before playing.

I saw this problem before and solved it by disabling desktop effects and using the metacity (for Gnome) window manager instead when playing spring.

Install the package fusion-icon and run it and you'll get an icon on the tray where you can make the switch.

This is a problem that Ubuntu has with many fullscreen applications:

The only way I know of solving it is to turn off Compiz (visual effects) in System > Preferences > Appearance > Visual Effects

You can also write a script that turns them off automatically and insert it into all your game launchers, but I couldn't be bothered :?

The screen will still dim when in fullscreen unless you turn off "Dim screen when idle" in Power Options.

Hope this helps,

William

edit: oops - I missed the post a couple above that says the same thing  still, the link may prove useful.
