The mappers-only forum gets next to no usage; is there really a need to keep it?

IMO change this forum to release/preview only, and change the other forum to map making (questions, tuts) move the sticky's in here about map making to the other forum and make that other forum open.

Merge the map mappers forum into the regular map forum.

Creating that subforum was a stupid idea to start with.

i want to be able to comment on map releases

+1 to zwzsg's suggestion. or maybe 2 subforums with posting access for everyone, one for discussion, and one for complete maps. +1 to hoi's suggestion, minus the whole confusing forum switchup thingy

this forum just for releases and comments.

the other forum about mapping itself, so how to make maps, ect.

seems pretty clear to me :wink:

The real issue is that the mappers forum is private iirc. Only mappers can post there.

I would agree with merging the two, as the other forum doesnt really see any use.

make it non private, and for map making only, then thi one for releases and comments on maps and we're done.

Despite numerous requests I never got access even though I had maps on my machine Id built. Numerous threads went by where I had an answer but was powerless as I watched them all discuss to hell the problem.

As a result people just used this forum instead.

Sigh. Idiotic post is idiotic.

That is not the reason it was created. It was created for a good purpose, but ended up essentially being unnecessary, but still contains some great information.

One of the reasons it was created was because we had a problem with 0 moderation and people shitting up map question threads.

Zwzsg, shut up about tiling. The compiler does not use tiles in the way you think it does. FFS, make a map even a crappy one to see what I mean.

Anyway, yeah go ahead and merge them or something. By this point it fails to matter anyway.

Edit: BTW z that was not me saying your map sucks, I'm saying that VISUALLY it sucks. It may play like win and god, but I (and prolly most of the spring playerbase) wouldn't be playing on it often (if at all) because it's freaking ugly.

I'm not insulting you here, I just telling you that the compiler is a crappy compiler, the tiles you speak of are dds tiles and have little to do with the actual texture you use. If you use a repeating texture, fine, the compiler will do a fairly decent job of using the same tiled texture over and over again, but your map will look like assflakes.
