Shadows and Vista (Nvidia 7xxx)

Hi there!
I tried to run spring under Vista64 these days and I was surprised that most things worked flawlessly
What is not working in my case are shadows

I can enable them but they dont get shown at all.
I read alot about shadows not working correctly on Nvidia 8xxx cards but in my case they dont even work with my 7900GT. I can use shadows without any problems in Windows XP.
Is this a known issue? Or is anyone able to see shadows on Vista on Nvidia cards? Or is it a x64-issue? I am using latest Nvidia drivers (163.69).

update your drivers to 169.01 (I know theyre beta drivers but theyre as good as where vista is concerned, even those 163.69 drivers used to have a beta tag on them).
My 8800GTS doesnt give that issue under Vista 64 or 32bit either.

you installed both?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!
never install a graphics card driver on a machine that already has one installed. It is a recipe for disaster either in the following 10 minutes or a gigantic explosion in a few months time.

Actually it isn't. You can check the file versions of what's been installed yourself. I've been installing older versions over newer ones and the other way around since ages and didn't experience any bad behaviour.

Should have a freeware cleaner for NVIDIA cards.

Then your a very lucky person.
Installing new versions over old ones has even disabled openGL and video codecs on some of my systems.

Sorry, that was not was I meant.
With "both" I meant I tried aswell clumsy_culhane's hint to change the shadow map size and I also downloaded the beta 169.01 nvidia drivers and installed them correctly. They work but still shadows do not show up if I enable them. But its nice to hear that there is someone who has working shadows on 8800-card, maybe I will upgrade in some weeks then...

Sad to hear this

I just saw Crysis Demo on a mate's machine. Looks awesome. But I won't buy a new card if it will hurt spring...
To my problem:
I just noticed that shadows do work for trees and terrain. I dont know if it is since the driver update or already worked before.
But shadows still dont work for any units/factories

8800 cards arent quite following the rule of horsepower == framerates.
For example, anti aliasing and the upping the water renderers are essentially free and give little or no frame rate impact at all. However frame rates seem to stay between 20-80fps depending on what you're doing. This is mainly because of the way spring works and he new architecture of the cards not liking each other.
