what does track mode do?

i played for a bit, but i never noticedbefore those 2 commands in my uikeys.txt:

// bind Ctrl+t trackmode
// bind Any+t track

experimenting with trial & error didn't help me get what they do and what they are good for, can anybody please explain me & give a case example of their use?

Select a unit, "track" it, and your camera will follow said unit.
