Playing Core in single-player mode

Ok, maybe this is a dumb question, but in single-player mode is there any way to start as the Core commander, and if so, how? Yes, I did search the forums before asking, but I can't find anything that addresses it.

start the game, press enter, type in .cheat, press enter then .team 1. to switch back to arm press enter, type .team 0 and press enter again.
