I'll consider it, but I'm not very skilled in mapping yet.

So, you want a map with mountains, trees, rocks and streams with
the metal of a metal map ... :|

So, you want spots of metal deposits with grasses fields, streams
and trees ...

Any size of the map 16x16 or 20x20 ?

I'll give it a try an post some screen shots ....
In a few days ...

Reading this gives me a much better idea (IMO)

What about a map where the only metal to be attained is in streams and pools of water, perhaps even with a small lake to fight over with sea based units.

So basically, you press F4 and you've got full green through all the water on the map (somehow the water has a high metal count or does something to the rocks underneath it that make them valuable to mine) but the rest of the map has no metal spots what so ever.

Would take careful design to have enough streams that you could get a nice progressive amount of metal but not too many that you skyrocket and completely block off the map from land based combat. A lake or reservoir at some place would also be really cool to fight over for the majority of remaining metal. Streams would naturally lead to this point, so all players are forced to expand towards the lake (perhaps at centre of map) where they would battle it out with sea for the rest of the metal whilst continuing to fight on land also.

Would make for interesting gameplay I think.

Edit: Also got me thinking about Spring feature requests. Can we have running water in spring? (e.g. water flowing downhill in streams). This sort of thing would make a map concept like this far more visually appealing. Especially if you could define the water to be like flowing liquid metal :D
