Fullscreen Mode Problem

In Ta Spring's settings.exe, whenever I check the fullscreen option and set the resolution to a dimension (e.g. 1280*1024, 1024*768, 800*600 etc.) that doesn't match the current desktop setting (1600*1200), upon launching Spring, the screen will go black for a second, return to desktop but in the resolution defined by Spring's setting.exe, and display TA Spring in a tiny estimated 16*32 window in which the mouse is trapped within, although Spring itself works fine (e.g. will 'show' the script selection screen, play a replay battles, etc).
Pressing shift+esc will close spring, and return the desktop to its current resolution (1600*1200).
Whenever I set the same resolution in Spring's settings.exe as the desktop is in, Springs fullscreen mode will work fine, but whenever the two are set differentially, the above mentioned error will occur. Oddly, I remember being able to play in various fullscreen dimensions without a problem when I first installed Spring a week or so ago. This led me to remove and reinstall Spring (also removed Spring's settings from the system registry Software/SJ/Spring), reinstall the videos drivers, update them to the latest version, etc.
I even tried the fullscreen dual screen mode in Spring's settings (although the machine spring is installed on only has one monitor), and it would display it in fullscreen in each resolution Only one time (Normal view & Minimap). Thinking back I remember setting the dimensions to say 1024*768, it would work once, but upon repeated try fail as I mentioned above. I then came to this forum looking for help, seeing perhaps if I had missed removing something from the systems registry, and came across a message talking about Spring's Lobby Client (TASClient.exe) being able to remove the applications entries from the system registry in its options. I tried this, and launched Spring.exe and it worked as expected, but again, only once.
In short, I can fullscreen Spring in the same resolution as the desktop is currently in, so I usually play at 1600*1200. But when ever I want to play any other resolution, I first have to set the desktop to the desired resolution (e.g. 1024*768) before playing.
This one extra step isn't really a big deal, It's more of a 'why the hell is this happening' kind of deal. Other than that, Spring works great, and am very pleased it does! But I haven't experienced this problem with any other game or program that I can remember.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
