i fixed my sync error issue - CPU

I noticed that last week only i got synced out of some games while others were fine.
The cause was my overcloacked CPU. The thing is that i shut down 4 of my 8 vents in order to keep thing more quiet. That caused cpu to everheat to 70C (summer and stuff helped too) and did not crash my pc, but only did wrong calculations sometimes.
Wanna check if your CPU is 100% errorless? Get Prime95 program to stress test cpu -
http://mersenne.org/gimps/p95v2414.exe .
Start it and choose Options-Torutre test - In place large FTT's.
Now let it run for 12 hours and if there is no error (crash or program stops) then your CPU will 100% handle all other stuff too.
For instance, my overheated cpu failed after 3 hours of prime95 - and THAT would desync Spring too.
I turned some fans back on now and decloacked a bit and can rune prime95 for straight 12 hours.
GL and i hope i could help some syncerrrs.

I wonder if my PowerGear4 super settings are putting my machine over the edge and causing a calculation error...

Maybe this should be stickied, as many sync errors could be because of this type of things and it is the worst thing from development point of view (as you can't debug it, detect it or solve it other than with resync).

I was cursed with continual sync errors until I noticed the stray .ufo in my spring folder

Ehr, you should *always* test your cpu if you overclock. I know little about overclocking, but even I know that's common sense.
There's no reason to sticky this, this just can't be a common problem.

I think it should get a sticky.

Among the old players probably not, but what about the new ones ? It is not that easy to find in the forum why you get the sync errors (especially because after you get such an error you are not on the forum searching for it, you are pissed that your nice army is no more).
And this has also a method to test if the overclocking is the problem.

dang hot weather again here.. will have to turn fans on even more looks like my cpu is failing again.
How can .ufo cause sync err?

Ehr, if you're overclocking you're supposed to test your CPU in the first place.
This isn't a Spring issue, it's very unlikely that even a single person finds help from this topic, and so it really shouldn't be stickied.

Because they're loaded into spring as game content, so sync hashes end up being different.

If heat can cause problems without completely killing other processes, then it is relevant for all of us.

My computer, a Core Duo built on the Centrino structure, one of the coolest running machines I have ever come into contact with, failed this after four, read them, four minutes.
I checked, and the issue does stem from temperature fluctuations combined with a high atmospheric temperature. I'm now looking into methods of managing the heat.
Thank you, G.

NP Neddie ... i shared this because i feel that MANY people have this issue. Perhaps it should be stickied because we are getting into summer time and this Prime95 test might help many people.
Ofcourse this is NOT Spring issue, its our hot hardwares issue. I am just trying to spread awareness of this big issue. Other games might crash too or sync out.
I wish u all cool and unmisstakable CPU's

Uh, you really should get heat problems fixed anyway and shouldn't rely on the forum of a random game telling you to do that.

Uh, you really shouldn't be so patronizing.
The heat of my machine does not interfere with most uses - only with numerous heavy mathematical calculations which require precise results; i.e. Spring and a few other specialty applications. I can not diagnose it as a problem if it causes none which I detect in connection to it. If no cause of the crash is easily identifiable in a perfectly stable and unadulterated machine, I'm not going to suspect a particular cause, now am I? I'll default to the logical conclusion; Windows and/or the program is poorly coded in x regard.
You're getting overly defensive - if you continue in this vein, you'll only undermine your own statements.

No I wasn't being overly defensive, I was just saying that you should've gotten that fixed way before you discovered it might cause Spring desyncs. Heat issues can't be good for your CPU in the long run. Even if it works normally now.
No need to throw insults at me :/

There was no way to detect that there was a heat issue before, and there was no reason to look for one.
