What always scared me the most in the middle east conflicts is that lack of new ideas - beside suicide bombing, building primitiv explosives and that half-disguised racism (all foreigners & unbelievers brought evil down upon us -they have to go), i mean comon, in vietnam, in every other poor nation faced with a asymmetrical conflict, new tactics came alive, constantly challenging there occupants till they were defeated or found a diplomatic sollution, because costs were to high.
I once tried to write a short story, from israeli point of view, how that conflict might look fifty years into the future, i painted it in a lot of scifi-colour, and made the palestinians have some elaborated lowtech-traps (tank-pitfalls, collapsing on comandos-buildings) such stuff, had to scrap the whole story, because pals were unrealistic. Just think of that fuel-crisis they have every other day because israels embargo there transports - now to anyone halfrational, this would mean to encourage decentralisation, loads and loads of smallpowerplants, not depending on oil, but wind, solar, sewage, well even humans in a hamsterwheel if you have enough of that.
But well, guess its easier way out to protest aloud, and call for shiped in onionopinionreinforcements.
They might reproduce a lot, which is good news for we in the west dont, but they are stuck in terms of development, and once peak oil is passed, we ll have a v├Âlkerwanderung of the poor, guess thats the day israel solves its border problems or is dissolved, until then - great show in the middle east, great drama, lots of professional actors, you dont dominate the news with three wounded if you arent good.
