Replays are different, of course, Isaac.

My max connection speed is around 50 kbts and I never have lag problems then it is working at full speed.

Hosting 10 ppl usually eat less than 8k/s. It seems to be really efficient. I can run 2 autohosts and still browse unrestricted on my 2mbit/512k dsl

you dont need huge bandwidth to host big games, i can host 16 players + lots of specs easily on 1.5meg ADSL (about 45k/bit upload)

As far as i know, replays are just a straight dump of all network traffic received. On the replay site, the largest replays are 1.9Mb. Dunno how long these games go for but still, <2Mb for every single replay on the site means pretty small bandwidth usage no matter what the length of game.

Biggest problem is your ping to others, if you live in Australia, and i live in Finland, then it will lag no matter how large bandwidth you have.

At university I have 10 Mbit down and 384 kbit up on cable, and I've had no problems hosting games with as many as 12 players in. I've not tried hosting larger games though (a lot of people tend to quit when they hear I have 384 kbit up thinking it will lag, but unlike some places my ISP gives me the full bandwidth at all times of day). Here at home I have 576k down and 256k up on RADSL (would be more but I'm too far from the exchange for anything higher) but with even less contention (I think it's 20:1), so I'm going to try hosting some games and find out what the limit is.

EDIT: As for ping, a high ping shouldn't be too unplayable. There would be a noticable delay between orders and responses, but as long as it's not too high (like 2+ seconds) and there isn't a lot of packet loss it ought to be workable.
