Hyper Beam is such a terrible move. It might be sort of strong but it does "normal" damage. And then you lose a turn "recharging". I almost never have a pokemon that knows hyper beam.

Man, the concept of playing online makes me smile. Especially with my lulzy playstyle. HINT: alltime favorite pokemon is electrode, favorite move: self destruct....

Self Destruct and Explosion for that matter, never panned out for me. I had a golem that had it and i remember battling the elite four. I think I was down to golem and some pokemon that was not going to win it for me. And the trainer had like a dragonite...LANCE I HATE YOU! Anyway. It was his last pokemon so I thought I would use Self-D to kill it and win the game. Not the case. I lost. For me the only "omg strong" moves that ever seem to work for me are Fire Blast and Fissure.

That's because your Groudon is a beast.

I have had pokemon with Hyper Beam before. It serves a role, although admittedly a narrow one. The move slot could probably be used for a more useful move.

Can't say the same about Explosion or Self Destruct. Both moves have never done me much good. Of course, NPC pokemon always like to do me in with it.

I prefer the Thunderbolts, Flamethrowers, and Ice Beams of the move pool. Adequate damage, good accuracy, and decent critical hit %. Probably not the best, but I've missed too many Fire Blasts and Thunders in my day...

You guys are forgetting the STAB.

If a pokemon uses a move of the same type that he is, he gets a 50% attack power bonus to that move.

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/ ... tack_bonus

So, try hyper beam with a normal type pokemon.

Hyperbeam is still a trash move.

In comp battling you use moves with a high hit rate/base damage with no recharge delay.

Thunderbolt is usually used over Thunder simply because of the accuracy.

Earthquake is king.
