This is boring and very very long....
It could be less boring if we could switch to windowed mode, i tried some windowed mode forcing applications, but they didnt work very well (mouse was fucked up and sometimes the screen went crazy), so if you could find one application that works for HOMM3 then we're just fine.

anyway after inspecting heroes 5 with both expansions and patches i have come to the conclusion that its the most online suitable version.
I got both the original and the 2 expansions.
If anyone wants to know how i got them or wants to play with, join #sins tavern (channel) and ask about heroes of might and magic.

3333333333333333333!!!!!!

(though tbh I doubt any HOMM will work well online.)

What makes it particularly suitable? Simultaneous turns? Simultaneous turns can't solve everything as battles take a while. It might also turn into a clickfest if you want to raid with a hero and someone else is trying to engage you.

Yes but are you prepared to play 12 hour games?i can assure u saving and playing on the next day is a very low probability chain of events...
If game is not played in a single game it probably wont finish ever.

well, we could play team games, 2v2 ? should end faster.

I prefer 2 though 3 is good too and it seems to be the consensus here.

With either game I don't like the idea of spending even a few hours purely playing. It would need to be windowable so downtime during other's turns can be used for something else if turns are taking too long.

Yes point is in both cases team games will be faster.
I spent the most time playing Heroes 3 of all the franchise(not sure why anyone would think 2 is better) but i don't think its viable as a multiplayer game.

3 is obviously best, but i have to agree that playing it multiplayer is suicide v_V (tho, i didnt play it since ages, so maybe ppl made some good tiny maps)

Has no-one really played 5? Simultaneous turns don't solve anything. It turns to normal mode as soon as 2 players' LOS cross. Helpful at start but doesn't really speed up games at all in the long run.

Hotseat is the way HoMM should be played!

But you cant play hotseat one versus the other :)
@los comment
Even if its just in the beginning...in some cases it takes a while until you leave your own territory so its good(and definitely better than nothing).
I guess one could make small and very compact maps though,if one wished).
I'll examine some of 5's smallest maps and see.
3 Ill try and get that and see.
(also 5 creatures are definitely much more impressive...)

I dont like 3d creatures look... and who the fuck plays the game from such angles anyways? they probably look same as BA units from top-down view: piece of crap, as all 3d models do.

Eh yeah... just like i expected... really boring looking. makes me think of diablo2 and WoW, we just have to wait another decade until the 3d graphics can be as good as 2d graphics 20 yers ago.

also i dont like the idea i have to move invidual units around the map to collect crap for me

Oh? I have heroes 5 but it was like i could control individual units... >_> I'll try it again

Edit: OK i tried it again now, seems like i was wrong... heroes 4 seemed to suck so hard i have deleted it from computer so i mixed those two D:

However, i dont like heroes 5, everything looks the same, i can mix rocks with the enemies etc... cant distinguish stuff from the terrain = annoying to play.

what makes homm2 better than 3 ?.

It dusnt exactly have more depth or anything.

3 is better in all areas

visually
gameplay
depth.

Especially with mods..

it dosnt need more depth- homm2 gameplay is perfection. The balance is excellent, the art style and music nostalgic and appealing and the gameplay streamlined. homm3 was OK, but game balance was uninteresting and the art style unappealing and completely without charm. ive got heroes from kings bounty and heroes I all the way upto IV, and II is still easily the best. if you have not played II thats cool, but dont go making claims that its inferior cus umad son
