You mean grit? The UK is in the middle of a major grit shortage and record snowfall coupled with gross negligence by councils.

Theres no point gritting important areas if you don't provide a path between the entrances!

How about using an ice ax? It's supposed to be used in a similar way that hikers use hiking sticks.

i iceskate to class sometimes just for lolz. i picked up 2 chicks doing it, but then fell over because of the slipperness and i have to drop them

iceaxe is only good on glaciers and frozzen waterfalls. Or to make your way over a frozzen sea, while beeing tremensdously drunk, using one arm only to drag youself forward..

Iceaxe and crampons are indeed very good but not for ordinary walking in snow.

Also they are good at hurting yourself by accidents :)

Also time needed to attach crampons on your boots is much greater than simply switching to ice skates!
