Basebuilding is in the sequel, but it sucks.

This is a good way to run into the way Caydr failed. Time flies in hyperspace. The only fights worth stopping for are Slylandro Probes, since Probes have dispropotionately high RU value.

In fact, every person I know who ran into that problem said the same thing - they went hunting for RUs by winning fights, instead of mining. Idling in hyperspace waiting for hostiles runs the clock. RUs aren't your big worry anyways in mid-game - all you need is a fast flagship and some eluders and you can handle just about anything - biologicals are the important thing to find.

MOO2 is a 4X like Civilizations, not an adventure game.

The starbase commander's recommendation is right on the money - spend 6 to 12 months harvesting planets and upgrading your ship, running quests if they happen to be on your way. As time passes you'll get a couple of nudges in the right direction.

Just don't spend longer than 18 months at the very most before you start spending most of your time on the actual questing.

Moo2 is a really good game for its time but it's really hard to have a game that doesn't take one of two paths: you either tech to hell and win because bastard silicoids weren't randomly picked, or you tech to hell and lose to bastard silicoids.

Had a little bit of a profound thought the other night, lying in bed.

For most people this would be a normal thought, for me it took special effort.

Anyway, Imperium Galactica, especially its early section could be compared in some senses to Star Control II. It features missions, fleet management, and a lot more.

More easily available is Imperium Galactica II, which added some bits and removed some bits... Uh... I'm really tired so I'll keep this brief. IG2 is a really tremendously excellent game if you take it at face value. It has serious balance and gameplay problems that are easily avoided after your first playthrough, or I can avoid them for you: Don't build fighters every again after you can research anything above corvettes. That's one. Fighters are useless, and sadly all it would take is a minor tweak to fix this but... oh well. The second big hard gay is ship stacking. If you have 100 of a ship, it will only draw 12 or something and will stack all the rest on top of each other with a number to indicate how many that "ship" represents. Unfortunately this does terrible things to the effects of scale... gameplay related... well you'll see if you try it. It's not TOO big of a deal.

Buy IG if you can, but you can't. So at least try IG2, I think a demo was released. If you like 4X games and also like SCII it is something like a blend of the two in some ways. It's really quite good, honest.

Another game which in some ways even more strongly reminds me of SCII now that I think about the two side-by-side is "Nexus: The Jupiter Incident". This is probably a $5 or $10 game by now, and it's certainly worth that much. It has ship customization... uh... well... it's pretty good. Dumb ass hell name (ass =! as) but looking at the whole thing at face value, not "what could have been if Caydr had been there to make the balance unfail, oh caydr, you delicious man you" it's pretty good.

Well for me biologicals weren't really a problem since finding one-two rainbow planets is easy (probably because ive completed the game a few times) and then you can find hints to more as you progress in game.

Vux are easy prey and they come with like around 5-7 ships and that cash just stacks.

I have just started playing "Risen"...This game is awesome...Afking swept me away...
Been playing hours non stop...
Its an action rpg game in an open world and its gold!
No bugs after playing like 10 hours.
Intelligent AI.
Nothing new about gfx,definitely not cutting edge but it looks very nice and feels realistic.
Game is very atmospheric!nights are afking dark like they should be.
Can't see a thing without a torch.
Fighting is great fun with enemies moving to the sides groups trying to flank you,using perry and what not.
Quests are written intelligently...no silly responses cause u completed a series of quests in a certain way.

Game feels mature.
First of all characters curse like crazy.
Second of all the game is made for "explorers".
Some secret places were made in distant and remote places where most players probably wont visit but if a small amount of them will they will find something special that is worth their while.
Game is challenging.
I am playing on normal and the game is always challenging.
You feel like you are making progress all the time but many areas have high and low monsters.
In some newbie areas there are all sorts of hidden caves and entrances with high difficulty creatures.

This is like Gothic only without the stuttering,bugs and general fail.
In the game it feels like your in a living breathing world with endless possibilities...It's pretty unique in the feels it gives out.
I run the game on ~1900x1000 with all options on highest and it runs smooth....
I have no idea what these devs were waiting for for so long...This game blows all Gothic games away..
No stuttering,no bugs,no broken quests...seriously..Is this a modern RPG?

The game feels polished.
Do not read any reviews so it won't spoil the surprise of understanding and experiencing the game.
I think this game will be remembered for a long time.
It's not dumbed down for newbies;It's hardcore action RPG.
I didn't have half the fun when i was playing oblivion.
I give this game a 9 on the Gota scale cause its so atmospheric fun,relatively smart if you compare it to say,oblivion and very polished and bug free.

i just started playing "beneath a steel sky", which appearently has become available for free download (use google)
if you are interessted in click&point adventures you will probally know this game already, if not I suggest you give it a try. I seems to be quite good so far. Setting is scifi post-apocalypse industrial high tech metropol something.

That's really a pity, SC2's dialogue is really, really funny and well-written (especially if you use the voice pack), I imagine a lot of the stuff would've gone right past you if your english wasn't good though. TBH I enjoyed the humor more than any other single pat of the game.

(the Ur-Quan voices, of course, being my second-favorite)

BASS is a very nice adventure game. My uncle used to get golden CD-s from EA and other game companies for him to review (since he was part of one of the first CD shops in Estonia) with beta and alpha versions of games. I had my first taste of BASS then, just saw one of the cartoon cutscenes which really blew my mind with coolness.

If you don't do it already, you should use ScummVM engine to play those adventure titles.

Risen was terribly boring, just like the other Gothic games

For those who don't recognize the abbreviation he's talking about Beneath a Steel Sky which is one of the best Sci-Fi adventures on the SCUMM engine next to The Dig.
