Netflix

Post by SinbadEV »

So, I live in Canada, but my first experience with Netflix was in the 'states on my father in law's system... this puts me in the position of someone who knows all the the features that have been stripped from the Canadian version and makes me want to complain about the disparity.

Oddly enough there appears to be no way for me to anonymously provide feedback on the service... heck, I'd be willing to attach my name to the suggestion if I could find where to send it...

so yeah... I think I'm going to call their customer service line this weekend to complain that they have no method for providing feedback on their services... and then I'm going to start a grass-roots social-media campaign to get the features I want put back into the canadian offering.

The main problem is the lack of an instant queue... this means that if I see a movie I want to watch myself but don't want to watch now, I have no way of "bookmarking" it to be watched later... this also means that if I find a move using the much easier to use netflix.ca watch-instantly site I cannot add a movie to my instant queue and then go over to my PS3, and select this movie and watch it... I must search for the movie again.

Now, this all comes down to "minor inconvenience" but really... we're paying the same price as our stateside brothers, why are we getting a crippled service for no discernible reason?

There is an instant queue. Try again?

Regarding no feedback mechanism, watch a few things on it and you'll get spammed to helldeath with requests for your feedback. Or there's always the 1-800 number.

The reason our version is crippled is just licensing issues. More stuff comes online pretty frequently as the Netflix people pay for the rights to show it up here. If you refer to the lack of a DVD rental service, it's a matter of... ah... I dunno, blame Bell it's probably their fault. Anyway, I'd rather have the streaming function, it's more convenient. A year from now it will be a much better service as the list of available titles gets a chance to build up.

If you want something more substantial in the meantime, get a VPN service like overplay. A few bucks a month but it also allows you to use BBC iPlayer (which as it turns out, sucks ass, but there you go). Then sign up for a free Hulu account.

Also, don't use overplay for torrenting, they'll send death squads.
