Indie "clever" pack bundle for $5 on Steam, includes 1.5 RTS

Post by Pxtl »

http://store.steampowered.com/sub/6787/

Includes World of Goo (you already have that) VVVVVV (retro puzzle-platformer with gravity-flipping) Doc Clock (dunno) and Eufloria and Iron Grip: Warlord.

Iron Grip seems like some kind of FPS/RTS/Tower Defense hybrid. Looks interesting as a co-op mix of paradigms.

Eufloria is a Galcon-style super-simplified ambient RTS. It's pretty, pleasant and slow - Panda, you know how you keep raving about Flower? This is like that, if it were an RTS made as a budget indie title.

It's single-player. It's pretty. It's pretty damned slow-paced for a Spring gamer though.

I bought counter srike source for 5 Ôé¼, totally worth it.
There was also a special deal for that.

I have bought braid and I allready know world of goo, so I bought enough indie games.
Still I yet have to find an indie game better than braid.

Ya, I'm gonna give this one a miss. There was another indie pack they had on sale a few days back that I picked up that had Recettear and And yet it Moves. Grabbed that one, mostly just for Recettear (the game was 20 bucks on it's own normally :P)

I got it for Iron Grip mostly, played the demo some time ago and it's pretty interesting.

The big one I'm waiting for is the Air Pack

Indie Air Pack: Altitude, DogFighter, Flotilla, Gratuitous Space Battles, Plain Sight

Altitude and Dogfighter are awesome online games (played and loved both) Space Battles and Plain Sight are supposed to be great. Flotilla is one of those "OMG high concept new gameplay" indie games that blows your mind for the first 10 minutes and then you realize that's all there is.

Bad part is that these are all online indies, which means bring some friends or face empty server-browsers.

I already own all of those...

Altitude has a healthy online population, it's not problematic. Dogfighter and Plain Sight are probably less popular, I haven't checked lately. GSB only uses online for challenges, people can post their armies and challenge people to beat them but there's no direct MP (wouldn't work anyway with that gameplay). Flotilla is singleplayer, you get a random sequence of story threads, most of these have branching options so you can see many different outcomes even with the same events.

New deals!
SupCom 2 for $4,
Galcon Fusion for $3,
L4D2 for $5,
Indie Pulse Pack for $5!

I own Galcon for the iPhone. It's your run-of-the-mill swarm game, but it's fun to play. Is it any more exciting on PC?

nope. In fact I'd wager it's a more pleasant experience on a touchscreen. If you're curious about an RTS stripped down to the bare essentials, it's worth $2.50 to try it out. But you're not going to get hours and hours of play out of it.

It suffers from teh same problem I see in a lot of indie games - it starts out with a neat, simple concept but fails to really play with the formula in interesting ways. Galcon *tries* to play with the formula by offering alternate game-modes.... but most of those are pretty dull. The genre would be neat with random events or pickups or special power planets or something, but in it's pure form it's just not enough.
