Age of Empires...Online

After looking over the site. I feel sad. I signed up for the beta but I bet this game will upset the fan base and fail to attract a new one. Though I will try to hold my pessimism at bay until i can actually play it. Anyone else have an opinion on AoE:O?

I'm willing to be faithful to what was once Ensemble.

That and it'll be a digital distribution, which makes me think that this isn't going to be a major project. Could be wrong of course.

I was pretty disappointed with AOE III mostly because of the home cities. That and I had been playing the relatively realistic Rome Total War just previous (total realism mod later snuffed days of my life away) and the transition from large scale awesome armies to cartoony individual units was pretty jarring.

This looks even more childish. I almost didn't care to post because it is just that unappealing but I got to mention Rome Total War which is as close of perfection as historical war games get.

I maintain that the Total War games should not be closely compared to RTS because they're not in that genre. That being said, I've heard that Rome TW was considered the least historically accurate TW game. But I know the Total Realism mod was an attempt to fix that.

I think AoE3 was one of the best RTS I've ever played. Lots of fun, really balanced, really epic moments.

This is what went on in the meeting:
"Hey, Farmville is making huge amounts of money! Let's cash in!"
"What's the nearest piece of IP we haven't raped utterly in the past two years?"
"How about Age Of Empires? It's an RTS, so it sounds sort of related!"
"What's an RTS?"
"Some kind of tech-head word for 'potential cash-cow'"
"Perfect!"

It's an MMO/social media/micropayments buzzword filled piece of crap. I hope it fails miserably.

Don't get me wrong, if Spore was like that it'd be kinda cool. Kinda...

I could not even stand AOE3, because I was playing imo much more better Rise of nations at that time.

This could be fun, but not for hardcore RTS players I guess :)

Are there any franchises that have not been raped yet, wait, wasnt there this RTS, how was it called again, right Total Annihilation, how about we make a Facebookgame out of it... think of the gaudium this would cause, and the cashboxsounds. Suddenly, the fun was over.

How will it be financed?

I must say Im not a big fan of 3D comic graphics
But I like things like quake live that are financed by ads that I can block with adblock

There is the chance that they will balance it well and not turn it into shit so it would be okay and a lot of people could play it.

Windows life sounds like shit though

Just read they want money for it
