This is why I like Dirt 2

Post by Caydr »

Video I made a little while ago. Had to downsize to 720p and compress it to hell to make it upload in less than a day on my shitty Canadian internet connection, but it's still an awesome video.

because you can play like crap then fraps the replay and upload it without any editing whatsoever?

Dirt 2 is alright though, played it a bit on a friends ps3.
Except for the "yoyoyo look here wow buddy whats up tada new upgrade" menu that goes on for 5 minutes, then a 5 minute race etc.
Oh and a arcade racer on a console without splitscreen? probally not next-gen enough.

So either you play with keyboard or your gamepad is also not properly supported by this cheap console port.

They did the same mistake as in GRID, steer and bang your in the wall.
Of coure its works fine with the xboxÔäó controller :x

We need to kill console kiddies, all of them its their fault.

Uhh... err...

Errr.... I didn't play like crap. I wasn't amazing, but I only had one major smash into anything and came in second place on a keyboard.

What sort of editing did you want to see? It was a race, 2 minutes long and by some incredible coincidence it synchronized with the ingame music in a few spots - in other words, hardcore badass material. If I watched it for a few hours, I think I'd naturally develop the ability to snowboard.
So either you play with keyboard
Yes, as noted in the video in a large caption, I am playing with a keyboard as I do not currently have a joystick hooked up. Or rather, it's hooked up but buried under a mountain of things I don't remember ever seeing before. At this point I'm afraid the pile is a major load-bearing element for my ceiling.

With a keyboard you can have 100% steer or 0%
with a gamepad you can do anything inbetween.

But in dirt2 only if you have the xbox controller all the other controllers will not really work mine reacts too sensitive.

so having only one major crash is good driving now
The computercars are there to offer a good fight but in the end, lose.
Its like the bullfighting in spain.
I think in dirt2 they even adjust their speed (like in many race games) to the players speed.

On the other hand, watch this guy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2YXrxI1 ... re=related
By this video iam impressed (well, as much a gamevideo can impress people) because when playing RBR my car crashs all over the place.
But in Dirt2 everybody can drive like world champion, boring. The drifts werent even that special/good, just the standard first time play sliding.

Or this: http://vimeo.com/10697175 (not my video but iam the red car with the yellow stripes on the side that is usually seen crashing lol)
Even though I only finished 17/19 this 1h race was more exciting than all the offline arcarde racing where the highlight is a new car-deceal or a virtual Ken Block shouting "wow awesome race, a legend is you!!"
bubbeldiblabal.
If I watched it for a few hours, I think I'd naturally develop the ability to snowboard.
Please be careful with writing such things otherwise newspapers will again report that playing quake makes you run amok as you develop the skill to handle guns.

Neat looking racing game. It could be fun to play even though I prefer funny games like Mario Cart or relaxing games like Flower. Dirt 2 reminds me arcade racing games.

The last real rallye game in the series was collin mcrae 2005 where you had more options than in dirt1/2 and skiing down the ice maps was great too.

Dirt1 was complete crap and runs like crap on the best pcs but Dirt2 is more optimized than dirt1 and at least runs at a good framerate.
Still (im repeating myself i know) not all controllers work with it and thats something that works without a problem in older games like Rfactor and gt legends.
