Thief 4
The game Thief 4 was confirmed as being produced on the 11th May 2010. It's in the early stages of development and is an "incredibly ambitious and exciting" project.
So anyone here played any previous Thief games? What are your opinions?

Re: Thief 4
I have one on Steam but haven't played, so I will see when I get some time and get back to you on that.
Re: Thief 4
The Thief series has a special place in my heart right next to the Prince of Persia series.
Thief 1 was a genre-defining classic, I hope this title lives up to the legacy.

Re: Thief 4
Great news! Thiefs, all of them, has been one of my absolute favorite games.
Re: Thief 4
Thief 1 and 2 are right up there with my favorite FPS games, they were some of the earlier ones I played, and I still love every minute of them when I replay it. Genre defining is right, I have yet to play anything that comes even close to making stealth as good as the first two Thief games did. Thief 3 was good, but not up to scratch with the first two, IMO.
And last rumor I heard about Thief 4 was that it wouldn't be Garret and that it wouldn't steampunk, which takes away it's two best and most defining characteristics. I'm not sure if that's true though, but if it is, I'm totally boycotting.
Yahtzee does a pretty good job with it: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/ ... rk-Project

Re: Thief 4
The best part of the game was running up infront of guards, mercilessly bludgeoning them in the face with a blackjack, running and hiding for 10 minutes waiting for their anger to wear off, and finally hearing "oh, must've been a rat.."
Re: Thief 4
I loved how they generated this city short before civil-war feeling between the factions, especially in t3, although that suffered from the small levels of the deusex2 engine. However, i found that one of the main flaws of thief is that garret is most of the time alone, unknown, so a storytelling the hl2 way is near impossible.
Re: Thief 4
Thief 1 and 2 are absolutely excellent. They might be a little dated, and at least for me I have to go through some hoops to get them running (something about dual core iirc) but it's worth the effort.
Thief 3 is a lot prettier, and it is still pretty good, but the sword was replaced with a dagger. 1v1 duels were one of my favorite things to do with guards (apart from the usual shenanigans) which is something that you can't really do in Thief 3.

A true thief is never seen.
Why the hell is that smiley called regret.
Re: Thief 4
Mmmm... sort of ankward, but was i the only one, (okay i was younger), who dropped nobleman and maidens into those guard beds, imagining there cheap excuses when the would wake up, or even better be found? That is what thief really needs, a social engineering degree to fool around with :)

Re: Thief 4
thief is just the most story-dense game ever. it's more like a movie, and a legendary one! i remember being fucking scared in the quinus-tomb as a kid, and again in the cradle years later... ^^
and also the "city" in thief 3 was very enjoyable, carefully designed with many little stories to witness.
hopefully t4 can hold up to the expectations :>

Yeah sure he's good at fighting, but nothing beats an unexpected broadhead arrow to the head!

Re: Thief 4
Ok having just recompleted Thief 3 I saw the final cutscene where garrett tells a young pickpocket that he has "talent", this must be the thief 4 main character if its not garrett
Re: Thief 4
It might be of value to mention that Thief: Deadly Shadows is available on Steam for $3 for the next 13 hours.
Re: Thief 4
The first two still aren't, and you have to jump through so many hoops to get them to run on any OS past 98.MidKnight wrote:It might be of value to mention that Thief: Deadly Shadows is available on Steam for $3 for the next 13 hours.

Re: Thief 4
I just love the narrative. No matter all the flaws of the game and the genre, but the narrative... Without it the thief wouldn't be the thief!
Re: Thief 4
I hear this one's going to be a squad-based tactical shooter.
