what's wrong with google/the internet

Post by oksnoop2 »

http://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1AVS ... interviews

I was looking up how to give good interviews for a school project and i got some stuff on the first page that just seemed ...explicit.

7th down
and related searches

I thought google was a good search engine.

After reading my post i realize i come off as morally outraged, but i should clarify that i'm just surprised that google was that off the mark.

So let me get this straight: Google indexes billions of pages, millions daily (free of charge and open to anyone, I might add) and gets a single item wrong, and now they deserve the title:
what's wrong with google/the internet
That doesn't seem fair.

More of an inquiry than a title I think.

And it is a product of man so it's subject to the unachievable goal of perfection and criticism for not being there.

I consider stumbling across such items a blessing anyway. 1UP to Google!

Lol, you sound like some kid who's found a single webpage that doesn't get blocked by his parents internet filter

I just have this amazingly rock solid.. faith in Google probably too much for it being just a search engine. So to see incorrect results really just bothered me. But yes i suppose my title is a bit much.

Blame yourself for using imprecise search query.
keys to giving good interview - means anything that contains some of those words, and not all pages that contain "keys to giving good" are about interviews. And google CANNOT know from that query that you only want pages about interviews.

E.g. look what a simple + can change: keys to giving good +interview - no explicit content

Also try quotes can help sometimes.

Since when does google allow words to not be found? I thought + was just to suppress variations in spelling, acronyms, etc.

since people weren't very good at guessing exactly what their perfect website would contain

The internet should vary its diction.

Use the minus "-" character in a search to omit listing about that search.
For example, you're looking up <<major league NOTA>> but all the top results are relevant to Major League Baseball. Just enter your search query as <<major league NOTA -baseball>> and it will omit all searches containing the word "baseball" - which would probably work in this case.
