My point is, instead of paying a premium for some sort of advanced technology that lets monitor manufacturers remove the border, pay the premium for a larger screen with more resolution to let you fit more stuff into it.

Peet does have a point about Windows 7's ease of managing windows in multiple monitors. But that doesn't detract from my point as future options could be made available to manage many windows in one screen.

several small monitors cost waayy less than one larger monitor.

I've bought five 23" 1080p monitors for about $145 each.
that's $725 for over ten million pixels at a reasonable dpi, about 14k pixels per dollar.

the largest mainstream monitors I know with a similar dpi, would be the 30" 2560x1600 displays, with about 4 million pixels.
the lowest price I see for one of these is $1200... that's only 3500 pixels per dollar.

granted, the 30" displays are probably all IPS, but there's still no way to get an incredibly high resolution screen for a pretty low price.

it'd cost less to buy six 23" monitors and build a custom chassis to mount them in a 3x2 array, giving you a 5760x3240 display with a very slight (could be made almost undetectable during gaming and at distances) border between each panel.

bonus points to the first person who starts doing this and selling them for eyefinity setups ^^
