What about having pics on blank pages of your browser of your most visited sites which are links to those sites?

wow i had to read this twice.
i usually type, for exampe "sp" in the adressbar and it complets to "springrts.com"
for the sites i visit often i know after how many letters it will autocomplete to the correct one (usually 1 to 3) and can just press y, down, enter -> youtube
maybe its slower but it needs less concentration then clicking something.

I cant imagine having to use the mouse. Your skills sux. Coders prefer keys, artists prefer mice?

Learn keyboard shortcuts, turn on "search as you type".

This is presuming first that your hand is not on the mouse to begin with, second that 6 (Or 8 if you count returns to neutral) discrete movements is easier for you than 1 (2 if you move your hand to the mouse, 3 for return to keyboard) discrete movement.

Not to say it couldn't, if you hadn't acclimated to your mouse, scroll speed and resolution for instance.

I personally use both methods, whenever one suits me I switch to it.

A lot of stuff...I mainly use it for back and forward though...Instead of having to get my mouse to the upper left corner i can just move it to the left or right a bit to go back or forward...

I cant use firefox without speed dial and gestures...Unless I have a 4 button mouse.

You answered it yourself here. I have a mouse with 2 side buttons I can push with my thumb so things like going back / forward is just a single click away. No moving the cursor to the right spot or doing gestures - just one click...

Concerning getting to the sites I want:
I have that bookmark tab at the top of my screen for the sites I use most and with Oldbar I can see the rest of the sites I go to most often by just clicking that arrow at the end of the navbar. I also could just type in one or two letters as it gives you good results instead of the stupid new navbar Firefox has (which likes to compare what you typed to the description of the page - I never understood the reason as to why it reacts that way)...

omg its that hard to move mouse... you must use a toilet as your chair too... pro. IMO its just more confusing to get used to such things, since 99% of people doesnt have such things... its really annoying to switch computer, you feel fucking retarded when you constantly try to press non-existant buttons you have got used to in the past 10 years.

Why are you starting to bitch around now? I just was replying to Gota that I don't need the gestures he was amazed I and others didn't have because I can do the forward / back thing via the mouse. It's also a nice thing to have in general. So I don't know why you're putting so much drama into this - jealous?

It's true that not everyone has such a mouse but why would you want to skip this great feature just because of that? On computers which don't have this you're not going to work very long (and most certainly won't browse / play extensively) so it's no big deal. It's also not that much of a habit change as you'll immediately feel that the mouse is different (as most mouses aren't as ergonomic as a MX510 or others of that kind but rather bulky) and won't try to push the non-existant buttons. At least that's the case for me when I'm using some of the 0815 computers at the university...

Actually - no. You'd be the first to say the Logitech MX510 would feel like crap. It actually just feels great as it isn't just curved to fit your hand better but you also have this dirch where you can put your thumb to where it can "rest" which is very nice. From there it's also a mere roll to the two side buttons...

How does being amused by a thread have anything to do with reading it? I know you people prefer firefox and I don't shove anything down your throats.....Personally i am not a fanboy, no other browsers have anything that can replace Unite.

Well maybe the one you had just didn't fit your hand or you have extraordinary big / small hands so those averaged sizes aren't made for you. You shouldn't make generalisations for everyone though - I don't ever want to go back to a standard bulky mouse now. One has to try a bit though which mouse fits best as you cannot buy a good mouse without having touched it first. I also went to the store first where you can get your hands on the actual products and chose the one I liked the most which was the Logitech MX510 / MX518...

Of course it's correct that when a vendor prints "ergonomic" on its product description you don't always get a good shape but that's advertising as usual just as next to everything nowadays is "silent"...

this is about the mouse i had... it just totally feels stupid in your hands... i mean... i dont want to fuck the mouse with my hand while i use it, i just want to touch it with my fingertips. also they make them fucking heavy for some reason, just makes my wrist even more tired after 18 hours of use.
