Shattered Horizon is pretty fun but I'd only recommend you buy it on sale for $10/$15 or so, its appeal is fairly short-lived since there's essentially only one game mode and one (multi-purpose) weapon. Post-release support has been above average to excellent. What I appreciated most was that developers - real developers, not moderators, not PR people, but developers - directly answer questions on their support board.
The gameplay is very novel though, and I'd kill for an announcement that they were buying the rights to
Descent. There's no doubt that they know how to create an immersive outer space environment, they just need to hire on a few core game design veterans and a writer and they'd become a real force to be reckoned with.
I look on Shattered Horizon as Futuremark's attempt to figure out how to make actual games while not losing money on the re-training and re-organization process, probably with the intention of putting out their first "real" game now that they've worked out all the kinks.

edit: Once
the next content pack comes out, I think the game would be worth the $20 purchase price. In addition to
the new maps that have already been released, the next one will add multiple new weapons to the game. The lack of weapon variety has been the biggest complaint about the game besides the lack of voice chat, which has already been addressed.
