barebone system build

Post by manolo_ »

hi dudes,

i want invest some money into a silent multimedia barebone pc for the living room, so it should be quiet, energy-efficient and cost max. 400Ôé¼ (ca. 2000000000000000 $).

it should also run win7 smoothly and fullhd rips and maybe spring (dunno if this is good :D ) so could somebody help me with that (maybe a configuration for alternate.de)

any size/looks requirement? if you don't mind a bigger case, it'll cost less to keep it quiet.

i thought about the size of a shuttle, and as i said, quiet, low-energy-usage and 1080p-rip-playback-ability are the requirements. spring-playability isnt the main goal, but would be cool if ...

you can do it with ion (atom + nvidia chip) if all of your videos are able to be hardware-accelerated (so the nvidia chip does video processing instead of the wimpy atom)

any preferred OS? maybe you could build with a low-voltage dual core and a passively-cooled video card in a shuttle case... if you use large, slow-moving fans, low-rpm drives (or solid state), and don't give it an optical drive, it'll be really quiet.

i found a thread in a german hardware forum with that configuration, i think it should be okay (maybe a faster cpu) and a be quiet power supply. but i have an other question, since the motherboard has an onboard gpu and i will put there an additional gpu, will these 2 gpus work together or is the onboard disabled?

edit: changed the config:

i think it should be enough for playback of hd-rips (onboard 4200 hd), also it could be possible to play spring with it :)

I'm not certain why you're using DDR3, but hey, your money.
