Google phone (is now available on AT&T and in Canada)

Post by Caydr »

Does anyone have any experience with this phone? The "Nexus One", I mean.

I'm thinking about buying one, they just released a new model that runs on more standard GSM (AFAIK) frequencies, like the ones used in Canada. Bell, of course, uses their own frequencies that I think are similar to Verizon. I would be subjected to sodomy via unusually well-endowed rabid horses before using anything from Bell, so no problem.

The built-in GPS functionality is what makes all the difference to me, even though I've heard the screen can be difficult/impossible to see in direct sunlight. If I'm going somewhere, it's all I need to take with me.

edit: ah, and now it's available on Sprint as well and coming to Verizon this Spring. What's the point of an "unlocked" phone if you can only use it on one or two networks?

And tech reviews are already talking about newer HTC phones with better hardware and pretty much identical OS

The "Supersonic", right? It's funny, a few years ago I hadn't even heard of HTC, and now both Motorola and Nokia are basically dead in the water with Apple of all companies being the industry leader.

The Droid's helped Motorola a lot, but they're still reeling from the impact of the idea that people don't want the same damn phone with the same "features" and horrible OS rehashed 9000 times and sold at a 500% profit.

Ohhhh cool, apparently this new model will work on ANY carrier in Canada at 3G speed. So says Engadget. Rogers/Fido/Bell/Telus/Wind are all covered. Haw haw haw, now I can threaten to switch providers and actually mean it!
