As long as we're pimping Source mods, everyone should give Zombie Panic: Source a try.

Re: Golden Eye
perfect dark was basically golden eye 2.0 ... I would imagine that a well done Golden Eye clone would surpass perfect dark...

Re: Golden Eye
A well done Perfect Dark clone would outdo a well done Goldeneye clone.

as with any game, its all about who you're splitscreening with.Forboding Angel wrote:Boring game is boring.
some fond memories of goldeneye...
my friend mark freaking out because we wanted to play a round without "licence to kill" enabled, tearing the RCA cables out of the front of his tv and kicking us all out of his house in a fit of rage
same friend was having a family christmas party, and invited his friends to bring their 64s/controllers/goldeneyes with them. we had 4 tvs set up in different rooms filled with confused old people. a korean kid came by, i only met him the one time, and i dont remember his name... but i do remember we called him "the jackal" and i dont think i ever managed to kill him.
perfect dark was fucking awesome; although these days trying to play a game of it or goldeneye for that matter without analog control feels really messed up. a minute into playing the new perfect dark on 360 i wanted to strangle myself with the controller cord it was so bad.
i heard PD was going to get released eventually as a xbox live arcade title, i can't wait!
maybe i should buy source... does this mod live up to the quality of original goldeneye?

Re: Golden Eye
I hated multiplayer in 64 GE, and this is quite a bit better, but the game doesn't do any handholding at all. I was in a UK server last night for over and hour and the primary questions were "Ok wtf is going on?".
The different game modes are neat, but the weapons are pretty unbalanced to a degree, and just because you know what gamemode you're on, doesn't mean that you know wtf to do.
Like the kill the baron one... Not everyone watches enough Bond to even know who the baron is. I do, and I'm by no means a bond fanatic (I enjoy them a lot though), but I had a friend in highschool who was so I know most of the characters even if I don't remember the movie.
But still... moar handholding is needed.

Re: Golden Eye
to be fair, if you saw baron samedi IRL, you'd probably know to hunt him down and kill him, even if you didn't know who bond was... he just has that sort of face that only a mother could love
and hmm... do you think clarity issues will be resolved? after all, it is still just a beta...

Re: Golden Eye
To be honest, I really don't know. From what i could tell while playing it, it caters pretty much only to those who are big bond fans (I am one, even though I don't watch the movies or read the books religiously -- I really don't care for Ian Fleming's writing style), and those who had a serious hardon for n64 goldeneye (which had shit multiplayer, no matter how you want to slice it).KaiserJ wrote:and hmm... do you think clarity issues will be resolved? after all, it is still just a beta...
So far as I can tell this is marginally better (and looks incredible), and almost reaches the status of being enjoyable, but it's too locked into the 64 goldeneye way of doing multiplayer, and that is a huge turnoff.

Game modes make perfect sense if you read the manual.

I'm sure they do. Where is the manual ingame? Oh wait, there isn't one, hence my point. Do you always read the manual before playing a game? I highly doubt it, and 99% of the people trying this game out aren't either, so in my opinion, the fault lies with the developer.
This is one of the reasons I've been irritated so much with spring... And that is the fact that there are no good ways to convey lots of information to the player (not that there couldn't be, just that currently the ones that are available in some way shape or form leave a lot to be desired).

There's KP auto tip dispenser, and CA nubtron.
I'm not sure if any is effective though.

No matter what you do, there is some way to bitch about it being wrong.
