just mooching

Post by forest_devil »

due to the unfortunate failing of my computer to play spring
(almost 100% certain its me being "special")

i have actually gained myself a social life. (i think i have although im not very knowledge able at the whole talking to people side of life)

ive also generally got on with life and actually done stuff outside of the realm of eat sleep school spring.

so as a general stab in the dark.
does anyone think it is possible to play spring AND get on with life and socialise?
most of the personality's on the forum are testamonys against this i know.
but i have *some* faith its possible

Talking is over rated. You should join the military, that'll boost your confidence...
It builds character, as they used to say.

hmm

i don't think that overdoing spring has really changed anything for me; i generally only play at night when most of my friends are asleep, so its a non-issue.

i work 8 hours a day doing work that doesnt require much thought, come home and work on hobbies (painting, 3d models, too many to name) and often go out for a drink or a spliff in the evening with my friends. on the weekends i barely play except for sunday night because im off at the bar or a party or watching sports...

so yes, its doesnt have to become a problem for your social life. however, for someone who is in university and has an assload of work, im sure they have less time than me because of homework... and if it came down to having only a few free hours a day, i would take going out with my friends any day of the week over playing spring.

of course, this is nothing new, i've played a ton of video games ever since i was a little kid, and managed to balance it with actually going out and doing stuff. i'm a social animal, i get antsy if i don't see my friends, or go on a date, or do ANYTHING really for a day or so, so i doubt it will ever become a problem for me.

however if someone were the sort to be predisposed to sit alone on friday night in front of the computer, i think it would become a problem. a BIG problem. this happened once with counterstrike. i would go out, but it was to a net cafe to play counterstrike. i guess its a bit different if you're out in the same room with your friends, but still. those were dark times.

*edit* i only sleep about 5 hours a night though

im not going to do a job where i become a target to be shot at as a day job. im a coward and thats the end of it 8)

and yeh kaiserJ i think i was overdoing it with spring a little.
i just lack any sense of urgency about important thinks (like coursework) and so i would spend all night say on spring and 15 mins over breakfast scribbling an essay down or simply not doing it.

FEATURE REQUEST. settings in spring lobby that lock out spring after X amount of time per night (and this setting cant be changed till the following day)

It's called willpower, bud... Use it. Believe me, there are more things out there than spring. I tend to work in flurries of a week or more where I get a shitton done, then I find a slowing down point to where I don't work a whole hell of a lot on it, etc etc.

Sundays lately I've been hunkering down for a game or 2 of BA. I've found that it's actually fairly enjoyable if you play on uncommon maps (I.E. Not DSD or any of hunterw's maps, not CC, the list goes on). But jsut cause4 I find it enjoyable doesn't mean that I'm going to let it take over my life.

There is a balance, and you are the only one who can find the correct balance for yourself. Start doing shit outdoors, go to the library and read a book. Get out of the house and get some friends to go out to eat or something. Go bowling, play pool, go to the bar and have a few drinks... get outside!

You can do it, we have faith in you :-)

Playing a spring mod won't get you laid, there's a decent chance that going to a bar might. You do the math.

Is it just me, or are new quotes with numerous votes disappearing? Some that were there and positive are no longer.
