Creative Fatality Gaming Headset

I have had quite a lot of headsets in the past because they break easily but the fatality headset is a solid piece of shit. It always lasts over a year before I end up sitting on it or something. It also has perfect sound quality, my hearing isn't very good so quality makes a big difference to me and there just isn't any other headset I would want. As you can see it looks really cool, I love the black and red and it's so shiny! They are also very comfortable.

I got a £60 turtle beach headset for Christmas. Everyone seems to know about 'turtle beaches' and they are supposed to be the best but for me the sound already randomly goes fuzzy because the wire is beginning to get loose (which happens with so many headsets). The sound quality is not as good as the fatality and it looks half as good. What I find most annoying is that they require USB to work so I can't use them in my mp3 player and the cable is like 3 miles long and always gets tangled in my chair!

I don't work for any sales company or anything lol, this is just a recommendation for a very good headset.

Yes they are actually pretty good value considering they cost so little yet are at least IMHO a 6/10 in build quality and 5/10 in sound quality - which is a lot better than it sounds. I'm trying to remember what specifically caused me to junk mine, probably just wear and tear. I'd recommend them to anyone that wants a cheap gaming headset, for sure.

The reason your turtle beaches sound so bad is because the USB connection is a self-contained sound card. If you consider that most sound cards are the size of a low-end video card, you realize the kind of compromises that had to be made... if you can figure out a way to just directly feed them audio, they'd probably sound alright.

The USB is just for power, the green socket is for audio.

how does that effect the whole "windows doesnt want to play from the speakers and the usb headset at the same time" issue?

pretty cool though; i hate my current headset for that reason (logitech usb) because i'd like to be able to hear voip thru the phones, and game noises thru the speakers...

I bought a cheap POS headset from Wal Mart over 4 years ago. I don't sit on them; they don't break. Sound quality is perfect; no fuzzies, no static. I take care of them and they have held up fine.

USB powered headsets/speakers just use the USB for electricity. You could plug the USB part into your cellphone's wall charger too, doesn't matter.

Well yeh, that comes from the fact it's called USB Powered headset. In the same way a water power headset would be powered soley by water alone. A muffin powered headset would be powered by muffins and so on.

You can however get headsets which use only USB which therefore concludes they get everything from the USB. Power an' all.

Often, though I've probably never fallen asleep with them on.
I've had them since 25/01/2009 and they are the same as they were then, only dustier.

IIRC they retail for something like $40-$60 CAD but it was a while ago so my memory's a little hazy. Quite reasonable.

What I'd recommend depends on your price range and your needs - if you have $150 to blow through and voice communication is important to you, I'd suggest a Sennheiser PC350 headset, and then perform the "ourfpshero" mod on them to dramatically improve sound quality, especially for games. A safer, more effective method for doing the mod can be found on page 10 of that thread. After doing this mod (which simply requires you to take them apart and drill a hole or two), they are said to rival studio-quality headphones, which makes sense since they have a pair of really high-end speakers in them normally only found in Sennheiser's higher-end products. You have to be careful of fakes though, apparently Sennheiser ripoffs are very common... as long as you get a genuine headset though, they seem to be very well-liked.

If you just want reasonable-to-good audio quality on the cheap, it can be found in the $39 MEElectronics M6, but you'll need to buy an external mic for those. The Logitech USB microphone (cleverly named, no?) is pretty good value and does a good job.

If you want the best sound you can get for under $100, the Head-Direct RE0 earbuds have a cult following and are said to be basically be best earbuds money can buy without going $300+. They are currently on a suspiciously-long christmas sale price of $79 plus $10 international shipping. These things have more devoted followers among audiophiles than you'd believe... I've got a pair on order and it took basically all my free money for the month, so I hope I haven't been duped somehow. Normally they are $200.
