Sure, everything in TA-like (and most other RTS's too) games boils down to the economics, getting big enough army to crush your enemy. But thats not to say they dont have strategic depth - you gotta scout, raid, and defend from your opponent constantly if you want to get ahead. Where, when and how to attack, or to just expand and power up, depending on what I see my opponent doing, thats strategy to me.
Of course RTS games also have the requirement of good mechanical execution of your strategy, but that also affects the strategic part of playing when things are more uncertain.

A game with more complex ambushes or well planned beach assaults dont really say that its more strategic, thats more about just the execution of your plan, ie. tactics. Not to say a good game cant be made with such stuff.

Btw mex upgrader gadget is horrible, nobody should use it :D

@SpliFF - I used to feel that way, and still do about the T2 late-game.... but for the early-mid game I found that my real problem was underestimating the importance of reclamation. Your cons need to be on the front lines doing repair and reclamation, and you'll find your economy is _part_ of the front-line combat, not a distraction from it. Remember that L1 metal-makers are really rather weak.

I have never liked the geometric growth theme of TA - I actually am kind of fond of Gundam's fixed-income economy, although I haven't played enough games to properly explore it... but either way, people dwell too much on the geometric growth instead of the far more significant deviation of TA economies: cannibalism. The ability to eat your enemies (and your own) shouldn't be underestimated.

Mex Upgrader is handy on maps with too small an extraction radius to simply plonk down adjascent mohos (like Altored Divide).

With all the lua we have its amazing we still cant place buildings over others, making cons reclaim the old and place the new.
This way geos can be upgraded conveniently as well, allowing the player to queue the t2 geo of his choice and not wait for the t1 geo to be reclaimed until he can make the pick and give the build order.
