You mean grit? The UK is in the middle of a major grit shortage and record snowfall coupled with gross negligence by councils.
Theres no point gritting important areas if you don't provide a path between the entrances!

Re: Walking/cycling on ice
How about using an ice ax? It's supposed to be used in a similar way that hikers use hiking sticks.

Re: Walking/cycling on ice
Waaay overkill
Re: Walking/cycling on ice
i iceskate to class sometimes just for lolz. i picked up 2 chicks doing it, but then fell over because of the slipperness and i have to drop them
Re: Walking/cycling on ice
iceaxe is only good on glaciers and frozzen waterfalls. Or to make your way over a frozzen sea, while beeing tremensdously drunk, using one arm only to drag youself forward..
Re: Walking/cycling on ice
Iceaxe and crampons are indeed very good but not for ordinary walking in snow.
Also they are good at hurting yourself by accidents :)
Also time needed to attach crampons on your boots is much greater than simply switching to ice skates!
