Yes, indeed. Archon NES was actually a very nice version of the game, with detailed sprites and tiled battlefields instead of the simple silhouettes of the C64 version.

Archon was best on the Apple II. Accept no substitutes. Damn, there's a game I'd pay to play again with decent graphics and improved gameplay. I suspect that'd be pretty darn easy to implement in Spring, come to think...

The Apple 2 version looks just like the C64 version, which I did enjoy... but I have to say I preferred the NES version.

Homages have been done a few times - there was an FPS version for Quake 3 called Arq, and the original developers of Archon and the Star Control series made a sort of Star Control 1 / Archon / platformer hybrid called Unholy War for the Playstation 1.

But I have no idea if a purist implementation has been done.

They work nicely as a pair, actually - M3 is a bit harder and longer than M2, and the quality of the game is similar, so it's fun to play after finishing M2. Plus, M3 is one of the few Megaman games that has direct references to the Robot Masters from the previous game. Really, they sit together very well.

Hmm... Megaman 1 were actually quite hard game. Who has ever actually finished it? I remember that the muddy boss were real pain in the ass...

i finished it!

played MM1 first, failed epically, for years, then sometime after megaman 3 came out i revisited it; even when you know exactly what to do with some of the screens and bosses, its extremely difficult.

my personal nemesis was in the first dr. wily level; the part where you climb up a ladder on the right side of the screen, then have to quickly shoot the three levitating platforms to reach a ladder on the left.

i was megaman for halloween 1990.

also i have 495 screens in megaman 9: endless attack on 360... beat that suckers!
