Is this offensive or drippingly-obvious sarcasm? Should we add a, "no, I do not REALLY want the target of my post to die" tag? What is going on here? This is moderation for the sake of moderation by someone I imagine is a new moderator that feels he needs to rape someone on his first day to make sure everyone knows he's boss.

Another moderator was the target of the post and he, the bethreatened, didn't feel it needed to be edited since someone else did the editing.

Exactly, if I'd stopped at the "linux doesn't count" (which in itself I think most people would realize is a joke), I can see how someone might flame me back not realizing my intention. But when I go completely over-the-top my intention is to all but say "no, that was a joke just in case you were on the fence" but instead it's a felony.

Besides this what's the deal with my post from last week getting locked because it "might be controversial!" or something? It's the off topic forum! People routinely post here to talk about how many posts they have and allege that the US government is plotting mass genocide against its citizens. Then I post, genuinely frightened by how many American citizens actually take Fox News seriously and I'm going too far.

I think there is some policy against discussing mod actions on the forams but noone really cares about that.

Yeah, I know I should've contacted another mod/admin but I've never been satisfied with forum bureaucracy anywhere I've been... If someone does something that's obviously wrong or out of line with established standards of conduct it's my experience that the only effective way to get it dealt with is to bring the matter to light. What I don't want to see is this forum devolve into what I've seen elsewhere - an entire team of moderators that aren't accountable to anyone and anything goes, shit happens, who cares, if someone abuses their powers don't talk about it or else.

If you want to redefine the rules, that's fine with me and I realize I have little or no say in the matter. Say, "ok from this day forward you have to be nice to each other, no swearing, no joking, no sarcasm, and if you're misunderstood here comes the banhammer", but actually be consistent about it. This kind of gestapo crap - delete the post, leave no hint what was said before but leave the offensive part out of context, tell the person publicly that they've been very naughty, PM them and give them a unilaterally-decided punishment, lock the post so nothing more can be said on the subject, and then don't talk about it or else you'll get in trouble... it's a crock of shit and anyone can see that.

What am I supposed to do in the other thread, say, "hey guys that anti-linux stuff was a joke but I can't explain it or I'll get in trouble so talk amongst yourselves and assume the worst"?

And 0.02% of the market share is valueless to them too.

What's someone supposed to conclude when they see that? And what's someone supposed to think when it's locked (I can't edit it) so in the event I was actually being offensive in the post I can't apologize and remove the offending material willingly?

If I was actually trying to be offensive or destructive I think everyone here knows I'm more than capable of being clear about it.

Private disputes and disagreements should remain between those they concern directly. Public disruptions regarding private matters can be considered intentional and warrant discipline. This includes discussing and contesting moderators' actions regarding you.

If you feel you have been treated unfairly, ask the moderator to pass your case to another or directly present your case to one of the active higher moderators.
