DS Downloads and Lazy People getting their comeuppance

Post by AF »

I dont mind offering file downloads.

I quite like the idea of lots of content

I even love the idea of lots of bandwidth usage

But what I dont like are people who cant be arsed to file their files in the right place even though it benefits them with better download rates with people knowing what they're downloading and beign able to find ti easier.

Such examples of this are the mods that're uploaded into the root folder and not inside the spring or mod sub folders.

So here is a warning. Files uploaded in naughty places get moved or deleted. Your download links will break and it will be your fault.

Users who put their files in the correct place will be able to rely on their files still having the same download link in a year or two's time assuming no legal challenges occur.

Immediate links to be nuked include:

http://www.darkstars.co.uk/downloads/vi ... mymod5.sdz
http://www.darkstars.co.uk/downloads/vi ... mymod6.sdz
http://www.darkstars.co.uk/downloads/vi ... 5_beta.sd7
http://www.darkstars.co.uk/downloads/vi ... e=1458.jpg
http://www.darkstars.co.uk/downloads/vi ... g/dude.rar
http://www.darkstars.co.uk/downloads/vi ... nloads.png

note:: For those who rely on having the same filename for archives for dependency reasons, its my opinion that you should zip them up into zip/rar/7z files and rename the new archive rather than the content archive inside it.

I think one issue is that it's not clear the upload will be placed in the folder you're browsing, other services asked you where to put it after the upload was done.

After the upload the file does not show up immediately, you have to go to a different folder and return to see it, hitting reload will reupload the file.

BTW, that thread title made me think this was about the Nintendo DS.

It's not the fault of the users! The webmaster is to blame, for making such a confusing site.
